My birthday was last week and I agree that it's not the most desirable time to have one. People are still recovering from the holidays and don't want to think about anything else. I usually get birthday cards in March or April :D

Yeah, I'd even be up for some snow bikin'. It's a riot. Haven't ridden in snow for several years.

Shprung 01-22-08 08:03 PM

I just got the news that I am free to ride a full day this weekend due to some play-date changes, but then the rain... I really want to do this ride. I actually didn't do anything longer than 50 miles for almost 2 month now.

big john 01-23-08 08:23 AM

Thought I'd post the route, more or less. CSUN to Mulholland all the way to Westlake, down Westlake and through Hidden Valley to Camarillo to Moorpark Ridge and back through Simi. I think about 6000 feet, maybe a little more.

Cassave 01-24-08 12:07 PM

It's not looking so good for this weekend, weatherwise.

lol. By "be ready" do you mean "not finish last"?

zzzwillzzz 01-24-08 02:47 PM

yes, you need to learn how to get dropped in the correct fashion, at your own hand, not getting stuck behind a group that leaves a gap and then trying to pull them back up and wondering why no one will help you pull as you chase and flail, blowup, recover, repeat ad nauseum

Don't forget about tossing lunch after an hour or so of that.

zzzwillzzz 01-24-08 06:06 PM

oh, it won't be an hour, if done right.

actually if i mess with his head enough it could happen before<insert evil emoticon here>this is fun!

big john 01-24-08 08:06 PM

O.K., the R.J. century is off! He may try to do it next Saturday, the 2nd. So the question remains, what to do this weekend? Vance seems to like mtb rides when it's wet. I might be up for that, if it's not raining hard.

thomson 01-24-08 08:17 PM

Be sure and let us know if you're doing that. Where would you start?

John, I really am just going to play it by ear depending on the weather and my schedule. If I go, I will probably start at Glenola Park. I want to get a ride in the snow this year.

VanceMac 01-24-08 10:07 PM

It seems unlikely to dry out anytime soon, and I'm going stir crazy, so I'll definitely be MTB'ing at top of Reseda on Saturday. In fact, Mario and I will probably be there tomorrow morning, as well (unless it's pouring). I think you've got him hooked, John -- he picked his bike up from the shop today, and came back ready to pull the trigger on a new Orbea Alma. :)

The CHP is requiring chains on all vehicles on AC and Angeles Forest:eek:

Actually I just checked the roadclosure site and Angeles Forest is closed due to high snow.http://ladpw.org/mpm/roadclosure/?CF...TOKEN=38003694

thomson 01-25-08 05:27 AM

Great site Bob, I will watch this. I may have to wait for a less stormy weekend.

big john 01-25-08 07:44 AM

If AC is closed, they may let us up there on bikes. Snow biking is great when the conditions are right.
Vance, if it's raining a lot, the best place to ride off-road is Rocky Peak. Mostly sandstone, there is very little mud, even during the rain. We'll talk later.

Cassave 01-25-08 11:42 AM

If (if, hah!) it's raining I'm gonna dust off my framebuilding jigs and ponder some
improvments to them.
Brazing on cold days is nice.

By improvement, do you mean change them to align sloping top tubes?

Sloping toptubes were predicted by Nostradamus.
A sure sign of the coming apocalypse.

So, no.
