Now it looks like a window of opportunity tomorrow am. If it's not raining I'll start from the Commons in Calabassas and head for Stunt. I can get in a few quality climbs without getting too far from the car
|
Big John, Scoot, Mario and I had a fantastic mtb ride at the top of Reseda today. A bit moist and muddy in spots, but mostly ideal conditions (surprisingly). Thanks to all the rain and wind, lately, the views were amazing. You can't tell from this crappy cell phone photo, but it was crystal clear for miles. We could even see the heavily snow-capped mts out past Frazier Park.
Scoot scored a perfect 10.0 on a flying dismount to land on his feet when his bike turned sideways in a rocky stream. Sullivan Canyon is a blast going down, but it's quite steep on the return trip! |
The Saturday ride. I ended up with 97.2mile, which started the CAM challenge for 2008...
No specific route this time, and I know lots of SFVBC reading BF, so here are the photos: http://shai.impcash.com/08/1/DSCF3265.jpg Stan, while 59 years old, he have way more hair than me, and he kick my *** in any hill or bump http://shai.impcash.com/08/1/DSCF3266.jpg Look! the Birthday boy. While RJ birthday century got canceled, we end up doing part of it anyhow. http://shai.impcash.com/08/1/DSCF3267.jpg http://shai.impcash.com/08/1/DSCF3268.jpg http://shai.impcash.com/08/1/DSCF3269.jpg |
Holy cow, that is Stan? I haven't seen him since it was just scruff (tour de Francis). It filled in nicely.
Nice pictures Shai. |
Riding in the Redwoods (4th Annual) + Tour of California
Hi All,
This is an invitation to all SFVBC members to come up to the Bay Area and experience Riding in the Redwoods + The Tour of California. Many of you probably know me as the person who shows up to your club rides once every two months and rides a yellow and purple Lemond. I used to live in SoCal, but moved to NorCal about four years ago. The riding is great in both places, so come on up and try something different. I'm planning rides during the Presidents' Day weekend which means you will also get to see the start of the Tour of California. For more information and to reply on whether or not you are coming please go to the following evite link: http://www.evite.com/app/publicUrl/A...BFWOV/redwoods Thanks, David |
Hi David! I went part way up May Canyon on Sunday and turned back when I saw the rain coming. Still got wet, but I couldn't believe how windy it was up there. Cold coming back down, too.

Hi Big John,
This picture and your post reminds me that this whole event will depend on the weather. The Tour of California has had good weather the past two years, so let's hope that holds true this year as well. If it looks like rain up here on Presidents' Day weekend, then I am heading down to SoCal for the week. Regards, David |

Hi Dave, come on down. Big T awaits.
I'll be in town from Feb 19th to Feb 25th. If it rains up here Presidents' Day weekend, then I'll be in town from Feb 15th to Feb 25th. Are you doing Big T when the TDC rides into Pasadena? Regards, David |
I've been asked to tell everyone that the birthday century for RJ is back on for the 2nd. CSUN at 8:00. Be there or be square.
|
OK , I'll be there. Wouldn't want to be square.

So I've done about 50 miles in the last three weeks on my road bike. I have done a few mtb rides, but a century might be a challenge at this point.
|
John, that's some world-class sandbagging.

Haven't decided where to watch the race on Sunday. Either watching them coming up Aliso from Mt Gleason road at Mill Creek Summit or Angeles Forest at Clearcreek. I guess Big T is the way to get to both places, it depends on how many times I climb Balcom the day before :(

Regrettably, I'm sick as a dog. Flu is an evil thing.
There's no way I'm riding a century tomorrow. Happy Birthday RJ, but some other time.... |
Bummer Steve. I'm struggling with a muscle pull, but I think I'll start at CSUN and play it by ear.

Steve, this flu attacked you for 2 weeks now.. feel better.
RJ century: I saw RJ last week and wished you a happy birthday on the original/canceled ride. I will be riding the BF 100+ miles to SB so someone from the SFVBC have to take pictures in the RJ century! Vance, I think it is time for you to start taking some shoots... Have fun. |
I think Vance did take some shoots. I don't know where he went later, though. Some of us split off the century at Potrero and Wendy, still got 90 miles, but we lost Vance on the way home. Nice day out there, but friggin cold going down Westlake Blvd. Nice to see Paul, (AkAk2000), join us. Paul, I hope you had a good ride and will join us for more. Sorry about wussing out, but I didn't feel like doing the Moorpark Ridge

It was a gorgeous day for RJ's birthday century. A bit nippy for the first hour or two, but then outstanding the rest of the day. We started from CSUN at 8am with 20, maybe 25 riders. Lost a small group after the Rock Store climb, and another small group (including me), cut off the Hidden Valley loop (I think?) to end with 86 miles. I think the main group will end up with close to 110.
It was good to see AkAk out there, as well as BF/SFV regulars Big John and Valleygirl. Also good to see Ovo's jacket-mate, Joe. (Ovo: Joe says that, although he is flattered by your man-crush, he doesn't swing that way.) Birthday boy (RJ) at the ride start: http://vmac.smugmug.com/photos/250120513-L.jpg Always a large group at CSUN: http://vmac.smugmug.com/photos/250120517-L.jpg Stragglers (Caren and Keith) finishing Rock Store: http://vmac.smugmug.com/photos/250120534-L.jpg Top of Rock Store: http://vmac.smugmug.com/photos/250120541-L.jpg Flat tire stop: http://vmac.smugmug.com/photos/250120521-L.jpg Most of the group who made it to the lunch break: http://vmac.smugmug.com/photos/250120523-L.jpg (Lea, Carrie, RJ, Blazhe, Caren, Mel, Keith, Big John, Mark, Andy, Valleygirl, Henry, Zo, Andrew, Joe) RJ's Angels: http://vmac.smugmug.com/photos/250120530-L.jpg Just proof that I actually rode... http://vmac.smugmug.com/photos/250120548-M.jp |
