My ignorance, Phil. I wasn't referring to any shortcomings on your part.
Heh.
I offered $75 while trying to maintain an aloof attitude (while inside squiriming with sheer delight). We "split the difference", which meant $85. It came with absolutely beautiful Shimano 1st gen Deore XT RD-M700 and FD-M700 stag head derailleurs! I've transported the Jim Blackburn rear rack to my Fuji S-10S already. Not sure what to do with the Jim Blackburn constructeur/porter rack on the front.
The neat thing about this frame is the centerpull brake studs (Dia Compes mounted directly). They're alleged to have less flex and better stopping power this way. There's a little adapter plate for each with a return spring mount, like with V-brakes.
The frame is Champion #2 (Tange #2) with SunTour dropouts. Chromed throughout, but exposed only at the headtube lugs, wrap around seatstays, and dropouts. The paint also has pinstriping. It's pretty. I'll try to post pictures once I've fully cleaned and polished the frame.

Thanks, it cleaned up nicely. I finished rebuilding it this summer with mostly found or traded parts. Suntour Vx derailleurs with Suntour power DT shifters, Sugino Maxxy crankset, Dia Compe brakes/levers all found for free on a rusted out donor bike. I had it fully ride-able for under $100 including the wheelbuild. Since then I invested in full fenders and a black brooks B-17. I am very happy with the way things turned out.

Pretty sure it's a basso, made by aegis in maine (the seat clamp is 9/64", it's weird).
here's an album with my bike and others I found whilst trolling the web- https://imgur.com/a/1JSTI#0

Picked up 28 bikes plus parts being thrown out due to Sandy, most have no water damage as the owners were taking advantage of bulk trash pickup. I haven't had time to take pics yet as I have been cleaning some of the bikes that did get submerged or were questionable, nothing top end but some good bikes none the less. 3 Schwinn Worlds, one LE Tour mixte, a 1976 Ted Williams Free Spirit ( Puch), A Raleigh MTB with Suntour Accushift 7spd, a 1979 Schwinn Spitfire 5 MTB ( my favorite so far) with 12ga spokes, atom rear drum brake with 5spd freewheel.
A 1998 Nishiki Cascade MTB with full STX RC 8spd which was in rough shape due to seeing salt water over a long period of time, saved the frame, seat post, stem & bars forks, brakes & rapid fire shifters, the wheels & derailleurs were toast. A few Trek 800 series MTB's, a few 3 & 10spd Free Spirits in good shape, a older Bianchi hybrid with steel wheels, a Raleigh hybrid with steel wheels. A Auto Bike (hey it was free), a few cruisers & some lower end Schwinn MTB's. There were a lot of good parts on some bikes I left behind but I did strip seats, ( most of the seats on the above bikes were like new making it worth picking them up) derailleurs ( if nothing else I can use the jockey wheels) and a few shifters. I hope to get some pictures in the next few days as time allows.
I already started on the Schwinn Spitfire 5 by stripping the wheels ( they were steel & very rusty) down to the hubs & ordering some wide aluminum rims & stainless 12ga spokes to rebuild them. Everything on the bike is original and just needs some cleaning and a OA soak to clean up. I want to save as much as I can of the original parts but I felt for my area that the wheels would be better off with SS spokes and aluminum rims rather then steel, I will keep the original rims & spokes though as the wheels can be rechromed & the spokes aren't in bad shape.

I actually found those pictures. I see the size of the frame is inside the BB shell. Are the threads italian? Do you still have the seat binder bolt? Can you confirm that it's NOT a 4mm or 3mm allen, rather a 9/64"?

PS, I didn't see photos of our Basso in your folder, I can send you what I have plus get any others you may want, just say the word.

Yeah, please, send them along- crcj04... Google's mail.
There's more images to that folder than you can see in the little thumbs that load up top: there's an arrow for more on the right.
E:you're totally right, I found a red one, but it's DEFINITELY not NOS like yours is.

Picked this up from a Craigslist ad. 1986 Schwinn Prelude. Columbus Tenax frame, Suntour Cyclone group, and San Marco leather saddle. Pretty decent condition. One of the better Schwinn from that period from what I am reading in other threads. May be a good keeper.

Nice P/U on that Prelude. It's going to shine up pretty easy.
