[h=2]Specialized Epic Racing Bike - $200 (Lexington)[/h]

Epic Racing Bike

Super light, column switch gears, clip pedals. 12 speed.

Tires and seat are worn.

New handle wraps and grips.

Comes with compact carry-pump.

It's a medium frame (5'5-5'10)

Great bike, selling it cheap because no longer racing.

And the wheels likely do need pretty serious work-- I've had three of these in my hands over the years, and on every one the spokes were dangerously loose. Dunno what was going on there.

And the Premis used Suntour Cyclone derailleurs which by themselves shifted better then anything else from any other manufacture at the time and only barely bested by Suntour Superbe. And that Premis only weighed 22 pounds which was really good back then.

If that bike is in really nice condition and it has the original Suntour Cyclone front and rear derails I would buy that bike...if it fits of course.

Also if the loose spoke thing was a problem with those wheels, which I do not believe it was, it is easily remedied by just getting the wheels retensioned.
I doubt it. The seller is not very forthcoming about the condition. I know, everything can look better in picture.

Thanks guys!
' saved me $200.

I do see another one I like. Stay tuned...

^Yowzers! The Klein's front tire has virtually no practical clearance with that fat tire! I'd hate to see a rock wedge in there.

Price is acceptable. Is it the right size for you? You would probably need to be ~5'4" or so for that to work.

Note front quick release is on the wrong side. Hard to imagine a frame that small with the seat slammed like that, other than maybe someone's kid riding it.

unfortunately no, its a little small, going by guides i should be on a 22" or 55 cm road bike, i also thought it was weird that the seat was that low. Currently i ride a 19.5" mtb that fits me pretty well. Im an auto mechanic by trade and really want to get an old road bike for the experience of taking it apart and greasing/adjusting everything. I have done the same with my mtb. i might just go for one of the cheaper schwinns floating around but i really wanted a french bike...

Did you at least go see the bike? If not then you don't know what condition it was in. You may be right about the condition, but you may also have been wrong, without seeing it you'll never know. Some people don't know what they have and will sell a good bike for less money then it should sell for; some people don't know how to explain a condition of something and will say it's in good condition and in fact be bad, or say it's in fair condition and it could be good, one persons opinion of condition could be different then another. I away's go look at bikes regardless what they say or don't say, then I make up mind if it's junk and time to leave.

But do stay tuned to the CL listings because something will pop up again and in a town the size of Chicago you can guarantee it will. But if you see something you're interested and the price is right you may have to jump fast because in Chicago if a deal is good the item will be gone fast.

Being that I own two Miyata's, those 610's were nice bikes. They were designed as touring bikes so they will be a bit more comfortable to ride then others due to the more spread out geometry vs a road bike. They used the heavier Suntour Vx or Vgt derailleurs but they were bullet proof and could last virtually forever if taken care of. The only problem with this bike is the 27" rims which means you have to use 27" tires of course and those are bit limited in choices, but Continental makes a Gatorskin in that size if you want a smooth tread tire or if want a tread design and bit more rugged tire the Panaracer Pasela TG is also a great tire for less money then the Gatorskin.

But if you want a racing geometry that bike is not that.

I know this guy, he's local to me. Good dude with some really sweet vintage bikes(mainly frames). Me being somewhat of a noob, i was in awe at pretty much all the frames he has. I dont know if anyone remembers here, but i asked about an '86 guiblato a little while ago. this is that guy. he's got a lot of nice frames and knows exactly what he has, not cheap, but never crap. man, and this is my size! sheesh what's a guy to do!?

No, I did not look at it up close, because I saw something that peaked my interest more. Unfortunately, the seller is not responding. Oh, well...

I would think so. We don't get to see something in that condition very often. It is my size too, but I already have a few touring bikes.

I am not at all knowledgeable about track stuff, but usually I see higher prices associated with the letters NJS. This might be a good price.
