Tires-27 1 1/4 (32-630) It will never be sold-perhaps in a yard sale someday in the hopefully far far future. Other componenets have been changed, so it is no longer stock. Like the bike-would like better shifting. Have decided not to hack off the hanger. Not my intention to tic people off-it must have been done before-was looking for those opinions on how. BTW-thanks for the offer on the dr-but I'll sort this out.
It won't hurt it for another Simplex install, but - as I emphasized before - threading the hanger will do nothing to allow the Suntour to work. The adjuster screw will not work as a stop if reversed, and it won't work if removed. It just won't. Period. See my previous post for the explanation as to why this is the case.

P.S.: Post a photo of your hanger. There is no reason for the hanger to shove the wheel any further forward than the spacer that was there before it.

Opinion? It's fact.

I'd pull the Simplex RD off my Peugeot PY-10 to show you what would happen with the Suntour, but something tells me that you're not going to hear of any other option other than irreversible modification.

Should have took a picture with the ST on there-as my word isn't good enough. I've nothing to gain by lieing. Seem to have offended you personally in some way. It needs to be altered, yes-main question was hack or tap (best way) Thank you for all the help. Follow up unnecessary as I won't be needing this site again.

Sorry we offended the O.P.

The simple basis of it is, old french bikes are a world of their own, a world filled with potential pitfalls waiting to ensnare the uninitiated. A proper French build takes far more patience than a build based on almost any other vintage frame. From my own experience, a deep supply of spare parts and a certain level of patience is almost essential.

Bikes: 1978 Gazelle Champion Mondial - A Frame, Mercier Service Course (?), 1975/6 Gazelle Champion Mondial - (?) Frame, 1978 Ciocc San Cristobal, 1987/88 Bianchi Limited, 1980 Gios Torino Super Record

hrm... i'm embarking on building my lil french frame too.. and this 'pitfall' called simplex dropout seems to be a handful... there are a few simplex RD on eBay now and 1 slj that is ending in another hr.
sorry i don't mean to hijack, is there any other RD that would fit into the simplex drop? Sachs Huret... they are french too..

It gets a bit irritating when every newbie introduced to Simplex dropouts refuses to understand them for what they were intended, especially when simply using a basic, non-plastic (read = reliable) Simplex RD is - bar none - the easiest way to make a Simplex dropout work in your favor.

Not only that, one even has a choice between straight or drop parallelogram with Simplex; enough to satisfy both Campagnolo and SunTour fans alike.

Correction. "I," not "we." Don't unnecessarily blame the rest of the forum on account of my own irritability.

P.S.: Come to think of it, if that dropout were tapped, wouldn't a Mavic SSC RD fit with no further modifications? Just a thought - especially as a Mavic SSC will likely run the OP more than a reasonably-priced Simplex SX 610.

A Mavic derailer fit his "taped" frame. It took me a while to figure out what he was trying to say.
