Never anything to do with bicycles; around here bikes are for roadies on weekend summer rides only, seemingly except for me.
A 1/2" drive breaker bar (big and heavy and chrome)
A couple of wrenches
A pair of longnose pliers
A couple pair of slipjoint pliers
A 100' fiberglass surveyor's tape (cheap orange plastic version) (best swag yet)
A pretty cool hat
A bank promo neoprene drink cooler
I did "find" a nice tile cutter, but it was still sliding down the road; I pulled over as it stopped, and grabbed it out of the road before it got hit, and rode up and handed it back to the contractor that had pulled over because he saw it fall out of his open tailgate.

$220-- twenty dollars at a time. It was crazy!
I went with a friend on a long ride outside the city (near Cedar Crest, for those in Albuquerque) and he saw the first $20. When someone says "look what I found!", immediately your eyes shoot to the floor. I found the next one and the after that we're off the bikes climbing through bushes crazed like the folks in Its a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. We ended up finding all kinds of matching documents including a guys paycheck (over $600). We had to find him. Classic case of how finding "a little" is better than finding "a lot".
After that, we rode about 5mph scanning the side of the road.

Most I've found so far was roadkill.
Damn it and here I was wanting to get that "treasure finder" emblem from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance on the Gameboy Advance.
No luck yet. I did find I think either $5 or $10 while walking on the sidewalk before but nothing while riding.
Oh there was this one time in HS when I had to pay a teacher for film I rolled into the canister a friend that was on his spare period accompanied me to get some sweets while I got some money. At the banks ATM I was about to stick my card in and take out $20 to pay off the teacher but my card did not fit in. Now I did not pay attention to the screen then till I got frustrated why my card was not fitting in to look at the screen. Guess what? There was a card in already. The PIN was entered by someone else already. Holy crap!
I gave a look to my friend then back to the ATM. I think I punched in $80 bucks thinking the machine won't spit the cash out or it was some test trick but I didn't see any hidden film crew around from any TV shows. The ATM did spit out the money. Now that it worked I ended the transaction and got the card outof the ATM. Shocked and wowed by this it weighed on my concience for about a minute or two. I did the right thing and walked into the bank and went up to the teller explaining the situation and why I had money out the account as a test to see if the card worked. I gave them the bank slip, card, and money. I didn't get any reward. I didn't leave contact info. I know easily many others would have probably taken like the max. daily withdraw of something like $200-500 then walked away. I didn't. I just hope if anything like that happens to me that someone would do the right thing and return my card if I lost it. If was very tempting to just walk. (wow, that song 'take the money and run is playing in the mind again
) I think the reason why I didn't walk is because well for one you're at the bank when this happened. They have recorded history of the owner of the card and when the PIN was entered so it's not like $30 lost on the trail and you can't find the owner then claim it.
Man for that to happen and have a witness? PRICELESS!
I guess the bikini top goes with the blow up doll.

Cyccommute, I haven't found much. Sounds like Denver -- or at least the parts you ride around -- are a lot more interesting than Boston.

One I forgot was a lady's purse outside Missoula, MT on the first day of my 2005 tour. It was about 5 miles outside town and I wasn't about to ride back down the hill to return it. We dropped it at a local business and asked them to contact her. Hope she got it back.

Two pairs of slip joint pliers
$32, that I turned in to the campus police where I found it. 90 days later it was still unclaimed so I got it.
Two wallets, both empty except for ID.

I have found:
- a wrench that I still have in my tool box, forget what size it is.
-A lot of dead animals
- old tires
-a lot of fast food garbage
-cans & bottles
The most interesting thing I found was in the middle of the road. It was a 6' bull snake basking in the hot summer sun. I picked it up & moved it to the shoulder, still in the sun. I did this because I figured if this animal survived to grow this large it deserved to live & not be hit by a car. It didn't seem to mind me picking it up & moving, it seemed like to know what I was doing to help it. On the return trip it was gone. I figured it crawled away after soaking up the heat it needed.

Today the thaw continues in Cleveland and I found a big chunk of curb.
Other things I've found include a knife, small stuffed animal (cute golfer guy I keep in my car), a wrench, hammer, and lots of animals (dead and alive).

Last fall I came up on a 4 foot black snake...which I picked up and moved away from the trail. I've seen them hit/killed before, and most people panic when they see them anyway - despite the fact that they help keep the mouse population in check.
4+ box turtles....again moved them to the side of the trail in the direction they were going. One of them was being watched over by a woman who was afraid to touch it, but also was helping warn cyclists about it.....
1 snapping turtle...I didn't realize how fast those things are - they can whip around pretty fast. Picked one up and QUICKLY moved him off the trail (and ran the other way!)
Like Robtown said - LOST - 45 lbs since last March.

If garbage picking while on bike rides counts I've acquired a red cedar chest, a 40's era wooden desk, an imitation empire side board, an old AM tube Radio circa 30-40s?, all kinds of bicycle parts, a special tool for Porsche lockrings.
