Anyone got any advice on a way to keep my face warm without fogging up my glasses? I would love to hear it. Yes I have tried "Cat Crap" on my lenses and they still fog up.

I have been successful with safety glasses so far! that might change!

Bikes: See my sig...

Did some recon tonight... the side streets are starting to get hard packed from the cars passing by (the ones that still aren't stuck or forzen) and the main roads have finally been cleared right down to the asphalt so getting around tomorrow should be much easier... and it is supposed to be sunny and a balmy -18 F.

Bikes: Too darn many.. latest count is 11

Lots of hard pack ice and snow... 24 degrees when I left the house. What wasn't hardpack was frozen runoff. Definitely a challenging ride in. Average speed surely sucked, 9.3mph. I just am glad I had the foresight to grab the MTB this am going out, I don't think the cross bike would have cut it.

Rolled in at 20 F ( -6 C) this morning. This is the first day for cold weather gear, heavy hood, ski pants, very good gloves and so on. We had our first snow on Saturday, but the roads are clear with packed ice in the gutters, and no place to go in case of errant drivers. Replaced my chain this weekend, and that was
a very pleasant feeling for my legs this morning. Now is that long 4 months march back to civilized temps, and making do until then.

Sixty Fiver, -18F ( -27 C) is very cold, and I would have to learn how to dress for that.

December 7, 2009 - a day that will live in NE Ohio bike commuting infamy. I rode the 'snow' bike with the studded tires for the first time this winter season. I don't recall ever making it into December without using studs for as long as I have been using studs. I really didn't need the studs for the ride in, but the forecast shows a possible need for them on the ride home.

23F this morning - it's finally starting to get a little cold - but still a long way to real cold.

My tires touched snow for the first time since spring. Just a dusting, and only in a few patches. Headwind and temperature around 30F.

No studs for me. Yet. (I have the tires, just not mounted.)

really glad I've been maintaining the bike including cleaning and lubing and that I covered it before the long weekend away. was a little nervous riding in colder temps with snow on the ground but so far so good. thanks to snow plows there is some shoulder to ride on and the cagers are courteous. there are the occasional exceptions that buzz me and I can only hope they do it intentionally and know how close they are. it's the ones that aren't paying attention that worry me. I wore a ski mask and enlarged the eye and mouth holes. it felt good to have my nose and sinus area (top cheek near nose) covered. the snow pants worked fine and weren't too hot. my water bottle froze 3/4 the way on my 13 mile commute and as I tried to open and close the valve and free the ice I could hear the slush in the bottle. I never did get another drink! amazing what temps in the high 20s can do after 40 minutes, even on a moving bike.

I'm thinking of adding an additional strobe just for those that buz me - pointing right at them as they approach instead of just the one on the back of my rack

Rode in with studs this morning because the weather is forecasted as being a bit snowy today. I don't have to be weary of people stepping in front of me with all the noise from my tires, they can here me coming a long way off.

Coldest ride for me since early spring, about 28 F. Broke out the winter gear - full tights, warmer gloves, balacava. Wore my Craft rain jacket because there is a slight chance of light showers this afternoon. I was very comfortable, and managed to stay warm without sweating, which is nice. The colder weather seems to be shortening the charge life on my light batteries, so I am having to recharge more frequently.

First ride for me in the snow since I started commuting in June. Somewhat miserable. Several things I learned:

1) If it looks like a hole covered with snow it probably is a hole covered with snow. Don't just ride over it.
2) Riding in work clothes worked great in fall, doesn't work that well after a lot of snow fell.
3) Get studded tires.

Chilly but not cold this AM... temps just above freezing, but the air was still moist and therefore dense. Got some strange looks from the cagers as they drove by in their big winter coats...

Had a nice ride to work. I could've swore cabs were actually moving over to give me room to pass. Also had a nice ride home because I left the keys to my bike locks at home. ARGH!

40 degrees or so and moist. Headwind had a little bite to it.

This time of year, my light stays on for the whole trip, both ways. I felt sluggish and slow. Having my train show up just a moment after arriving at the station seemed to confirm this, since I'd actually left a bit early. I thought it was due to too much eating and not enough riding. Then I remembered that the schedule recently changed and the train leaves 4-5 minutes earlier than it used to. SO I was in fact slow,l but not as glacial as it originally seemed.

I rigged a bracket to mount my headlight on the fork crown rather than on my head or the bar. I like the angle and shadowing/relief it provides.

It could have been a nice ride, -2 C (27 F), a little snow on the ground, if i hadn't been thrown a paper cup by an f****** driver that wanted to pass me...

Polar insulated bottles are your friend.

I'm glad I brought the snow bike today...at about 9am the snow started falling. I guess winter is finally here.

Cold, at least for Northern California! It was about 35F this morning, the coldest by a couple degrees but I didn't notice it much. I just put on some thermals and some warm socks, and enjoyed the commute. Now, tomorrow may be a different story since overnight lows are forecasted to be 23F. Might get some snow, and I'm crossing my fingers! I've never had a chance to ride in the snow since it only snows here every 8-10 years.

First snow of the season, perfect day for a commute in Chicago! Broke out the thicker tights and tested out the new fenders and tires. Not a lot of wind, not too bitterly cold.

5F (-15C) this morning with snow and ice on the roads. I was fine on the ice and hardpacked stuff but slipped a bit where it was fluffy. (I use Nokian Mount and Ground 1.9" studded 26" tires on my snow bike) I picked up some cheap mittens at Sports Authority over the weekend and they made a huge difference compared to the gloves I had been using.

It is really amazing to me how with the right gear it is fairly easy to stay warm even when very cold outside.

Good luck to all the mid-westerners, great lakers, it looks like you are about to get pounded.

They were predicting snow on the valley floor this morning but it was just cold and wet. Media hype. Rode the rain bike without issues.

Bikes: See my sig...

It was a little crisp (-27C) and the ride from home to the shop isn't really enough to get one properly warmed up... other than that the commute was very nice.

Had our first snowfall of the season on the ride home. Not cold enough to accumulate at all. Seems late this year.

We too had our first "snow" of the season. Seems to be a bit more than a dusting. Any way I took my old 1983ish Fuji 12 speed and cleaned it up and put on some fenders and headed out the door this morning. No problems to report. Tomorrow may be a whole different story as the forecast is calling for upwards of 12" by the time it all ends on Wednesday.
