The cold has been lingering here and the wind is just brutal making outside riding still very difficult. I have to ride for my upcoming Grand Fondo so I have been doing hard indoor interval rides at level 18 in 4 2-minute stretches and maintaining 10 the rest of the time. Ends up 12.5 to 13 miles or so in 45 minutes. I have done it twice this week. I was hoping to ride outside today, we will see. Our upcoming week looks rough so I may do a few more of those indoor rides. I am going to have about 6 weeks to really get after it outdoors to do the Fondo.

I have been fortunate though - and patience with the ‘waiting game’ paid dividends last ride it was in the 30’s until noon or so - so I did not begin the ride until mid / late afternoon when temps climbed to upper 40’s (and finished ride @ 43 degrees) ride before that - light rain and windy early part of the day so I waited - rain finished and wind then down significantly by mid afternoon *** (*** another rider had just finished a 40 mile ride when I started and was caught in a brief shower and said the wind was relentless) |
71 miles with just a little over 2k climbing. Quite chilly the first 10 miles or so but very pleasant after a bit.
my first ride to the coast in a while. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...eb44a6007.jpeg San Miguel canyon road near Watsonville. |

Quick one-hour, 11 mile, wheel & tire change shakedown ride, after work.
New set up: Racing Ray 2.35 front, Racing Ralph 2.35 rear on Berd Hawk 27s. Felt great and quick. Truly a Multi-User-Trail (Water dog)...first time seeing ducks on the trail way above the lake. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...31eb6a640b.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...875cc42411.jpg |
8.7 miles in shorts!
Weather was so nice. No Strava segment PR's, but it was a beautiful day to be out.

7 mile coffee ride. I missed this quite a bit. We had a couple of heavy snowfalls that resulted in a lot of meltwater icing that kept me off the bike for over a week. Still have to cover ears, neck, and hands at 33f. Weather channel still shows wind chills today. It's supposed to break tomorrow with mid 40's, and warm up over the week to mid 50's. Slow cold spring... but the real deal's on the way. Pic taken with the phone in an older part of the west end of the city. -D.S. |
54 miles today with exactly 2900’ climbing. Cooler than a couple days ago but still nice enough to wear shorts.

69 miles but only 1500’ climbing. 50% of the ride in zone 2. Was expected to get pretty warm here so headed over to the coast.

The wife and I got in a 12 mile ride this morning. Glad we got started when we did, because it got really windy as the day went on.

Got a quick 15 miles in this morning, starting with 6 miles to meet my wife at the botanical gardens' spring plant sale. She's driving it home, guess who gets to plant the new flame azalea? She has to plant whatever else she buys! Overcast and cool, but a nice ride. Except for the road work -- nasty dropoff where they had milled the old pavement, and then another road was blocked for a new sewer line. They're air-hammering a new plastic pipe into the old pipe. Wonder how they attach all the inputs from the houses along the street?
Got to clean up and head to the office for a meeting this afternoon. Bleurgh. |
