I haven't ridden today and I''m jonesing. My "schedule" says I'll be mupping in the dark tonight. First time.
I commuted'ed again. Same ol' same ol'. Got a bit wet this morning, had a lovely ride both ways though.
Biked to work today. And home again. 21 miles, all told. 50's in the am and 60's in the pm. Dry. Bit of a tailwind on the way home. Not complaining at all.
Nearing home, a guy in a pickup waiting for a red yelled "You're laying down on the job, ain't ya?" (Riding a recumbent, as always.) |
Another hot, humid and windy day here in the Sunshine State. Got in a good 45 miles this morning with some decent times even with the strong crosswinds. Even the wife had a good 27 mile solo ride today.
51 miles @ 15.8mph with 1600' of climbing. I had a stiff North wind for half the ride.

Super windy Mon & Tue, enough to keep even the staunchest rider off the roads. Roubaix and trike rides today for 19.8. Sunny but cold, medium wind. 2015 (Apr 15): 1122 Miles—79 Days—105 hrs ♂ Weekly Avg: 99 Apr 2013 to Present: 5,795 Miles—399 Days—494 Hrs I'll procrastinate tomorrow. |
18 miles today. 20 on Monday. I stopped riding in October and went from 185 to 205. I'm confident I can lose the weight but this weight fluctuations cannot be good for my health. My wife waited till I got home from work to ride with me so maybe we can motivate each other. I loved my ride today. Cloudy and cool mid 50's.

Did the ol' commute thang again today. 32 mile round trip. Rode the Bianchi yesterday and today instead of the Peugeot despite yesterday morning's drizzle because the Peugeot had a flat front tire. So this evening I fixed the flat. found a tiny sliver of wire, maybe 1mm long poking its end into the tube. I do wish they sweep those streets!

And learned that I have a lot to learn about riding one. One thing is... you fall. Ten miles with three modest hills this evening after work. All on roads and with no falls. Knock on wood. People fall on roads, too. But, not as frequently as off-road. |
46 miles, very windy.
Yesterday after work 25.4 mi. @ 20.6 mph avg. Several segments on this route were PR's, nice they are coming this early in the year.
A very hot and humid 51 mile ride with pretty steady winds, especially around noon time.

Mon AM was a group ride with Kiwanis Coffee Riders (Kiwanis runs a really good bike program) but first I had to patch a rear flat on the Allez. Running Panaracer Closer racing tires, very thin, light weight, fast. 3 Miles into the ride - another flat, same rear tire. Fortunately one of the guys had a 23C tube. Finished a nice 23 mile ride before the big winds came up.
Wednesday I discovered the front was flat. 3 flats in one day was the kicker. I remember reading a review (last year when I got the tires) that the Panaracer Closers were ultra-low rolling resistance, but you'd better carry a lot of CO2. There is absolutely no protection on these tires. After 939 miles on them I found that to be too true. So I patched the tube and folded up the tires. I had a 23C set of Czar CST with about 60 miles on them (with flat protection - it's the same Taiwanese company that makes all the tires for the big guys) and the ride today proved they have slightly more rolling resistance, but not enough to make a difference. What good is fast if it's flat alla time. 18 sunny but cool miles against a slight headwind @15mph avg on the Allez. Afternoon trike ride 10.2 for a 28 mile total for the day. I'm beginning to think that warm weather is never going to get here. 2015 (Apr 16): 1150 Miles—80 Days—108 hrs ♂ Weekly Avg: 101 Apr 2013 to Present: 5,823 Miles—400 Days—496 Hrs I thought I wanted a career, turns out I just wanted paychecks. |
Made the local loop this AM. All paved streets, light traffic. Felt good to go both ways, no hills. Saw another rider getting his bike out but when I rode back he was gone. Hard to find anyone around here to buddy ride with when I'm a new rider.
Looking forward to the summer, |
A nice 37 mile ride today - the last 7 miles with the wife. Only change between today's and yesterday's weather was the overcast sky but it was still very hot and muggy out. I hate to see what the middle of summer is going to be like.
18 yesterday with wife, same course by myself today.
I slipped out of work early this afternoon, got in 23.4 mi. @ 20.0 avg.
Ten miles, one hill this evening. Perfect warm dry weather.
40 mile "lunch break" ride from home. Still having bottom issues adjusting to a new saddle. Have my first century ride of the year coming up next weekend. I may have to do the whole ride standing up.
21 miles on the Screamer with my favorite stoker this morning. Warm, dry, sunny............very nice.
40.15 miles a 17.0 avg speed with 1745 ft of climbing.
42 miles @ 15.1mph Massapequa to Greenlawn and back.
The Huntington Bike Club had a B+ ride from Greenlawn to Massapequa so I headed out early and rode there solo, joining them for the ride back. I hit Mt. Misery both ways and felt the best i ever had both times. |
Another hot and humid ride this morning. 15 miles solo and 35 miles in "Old Fart" mode with my buddy, Frank.
50.5 miles. The wife was going out to Montauk for her friends birthday so I threw the bike in the car and tagged along. I love riding out there and was planning to do a metric. As we were driving through Napaque much to my horror the road between Amagansett and Montauk was unrideable due to resurfacing. That took out over 20 miles of my planned route. Ended up doing a couple of loops around the point. Mild and sunny but hills and wind were the order of the day. Could only manage a 15.3 mph average. Still great to be out here.

18 yesterday. 28 miles today. Unbelievable weather !
