Sorry. I was in a hurry while ago.
I owe you the longer answer since I did bring it up in your thread.
When you're watching video on YouTube or somewhere, it streams in either an .flv, an .mp4 or a .webm flash video format. Those are file extensions for the different formats. You can actually download these with a free browser plugin while you're watching them. I like to use the "Ant" brand plugin on my "Mozilla Firefox" browser.
Once I download them I convert them into a Video CD .mpg format which I then burn to a disk to watch them on TV. "Pazera" makes a separate converter for all three of the above formats (flv,mp4 and webm) with a Video CD option for converting them.
Not everybody is used to working with video but once you start playing with it, it can be a fun and economical way to collect video for the keeping.

Seems like a lot of steps.
I can take my iPad and hook it up to an HDMI cord with a $29 converter and run it into the TV. That's how I watch training videos in my dungeon, right off YouTube.
The latest TVs let you stream right off the net via wireless. It helps to have a Masters in computer science to set them up.

There are probably all kinds of newfangled ways that I'm not familiar with.....I'm still doing vcd (Video CD mpg) which is pretty archaic but you don't need special codecs for it, it encodes quickly and that's what I've acquired the video tools for.
One disadvantage I have up here is my slow internet cable connection causes the stream to stall a lot. (even when I'm not downloading the flash video) So I can watch it better full screen if I save it.
Another advantage of saving them to keep is that I can burn copies for fellow boxing fans since I watch a lot of boxing and have friends both at work and in my boxing forum that I pass them onto. There is certainly a wealth of old boxing videos on the tube. One of these guys can't seem to even figure out how to embed video, lol (Though I've tried to explain it to him). So I do the work and he sends me back copies of fights that I don't pay to watch.
Also have the TDF coverage from 1984 thru '90 plus parts of '93 & '95. lots of Eddy Merckx and Jacques Anquetil and other cycling documentaries which I pass on to an occasional riding partner.
Also save music which I strip from the videos and burn them onto audio CDs and pass those on to friends as well. So it does come in handy for me.
Video is something I've been capturing and playing with for awhile though. Some of this stuff is second nature to me and probably some other posters in here who are also YouTube posters as well.

I would just go to Best Buy and get a geZapalator in order to defragment multiple files to a gorgilating fimbrillation device. Then use a Fire and Death wire to convey the data to a delatory forgiteon and transfer it all to a deconstructive radilculator and then connect it to your TV.
it takes a few times to get the hang of it, but it's really pretty easy.

He (Patrick Plaine) most certainly was! Cranky, prejudiced, eccentric, what you will ... but when I think of a 'cycling hero' -- an image to aspire to -- he (PP) is what comes to my mind: "Sa vie c'était le vélo" (1,700,000 kms accrued).
Sadly, he died not long after this film was made (encounter with a farm vehicle while cycling). Obit. notice here:
https://tignon.andre.free.fr/report.php?id=1480
Fun Fact: Plaine rode PBP in 1971, finished it, then did it again (w/Paris Randonneurs) starting the Monday, finishing first of that group in 55:18. 2400kms Thursday-Thursday.

To put it into perspective, I got a huge sense of satisfaction that I was able to reprogram my U-verse remote to operate my new TV. Even at that, it took me 3 or 4 tries and calls to two different tech support persons.
My next challenge is getting my old (analog) DVD player to talk to my new television.

I have my limitations myself.......Like hooking up a wireless setup for two computers. I had to get somebody else to do it the first time and when I had to reload Windows XP I never got it right the second time. I wound putting a router in and running hardwire through the attic to the other computer. Things like hooking up SCSI hard drives have also always been a challenge for me as well. May the geek gods help me if I ever have to reload Windows 7. Stuff just keeps getting more complicated.

If you like OLD movies 6 Day Bike Rider, 1934, starring Joe E. Brown is fun if I remember it correctly. I saw it when I was home sick back about 1958 or so.

That means you're probably a healthy eater. We used to have a Pampered Chef can opener. They were real good once you figured out how to work it but using wasn't at all intuitive. We had relatives visiting who wanted to open a new can of coffee. They eventually mangled the can enough to rip it open. We had to transfer the unused coffee into the old coffee can.
I hate most high tech stuff. I think that it has all these wonderful features which it does badly. A telephone wired to the wall is devoid of extras compared to a cell phone but, when you need to make a call, it's more reliable and the sound quality is better.

Superior Film
^ this.
Breaking Away is very good, but your grandchildren are unlikely to understand post-high school angst.
Premium Rush isn't a very good movie, but has some interesting riding stunts in it. The boys may enjoy its primitive script and dialogue. The pre-cognition riding path effect is cool the first time. It wearies after the 75th time...
American Flyers is one that they can probably understand and appreciate, although I find Kevin Costner annoying in all movies but one (can you guess which?).
+100 on the Bicycle Thief; an excellent film. PG

I only own three bicycle movies.... American Flyer, Breaking Away, and Premium Rush. I still haven't watched Rush yet this month. I hate this winter. I've only gotten to bicycle twice this month.

I just ordered a BlueRay player yesterday. I assume NetFlix is coming.
