You'll have to get going on a bike-friendly community right near one of the trailheads...

i was just wondering, how do you take pictures of yourself riding if you're alone? do you just fine a platform for your camera, put it on timer... and try to bean it?

alumrock12 01-21-07 04:15 PM

went up to fremont older today.
boring stuff as usual, but i thought i might try and take pics while ridin pratically every trail they have in that small place...

dunno how many miles... prolly round 18-20?
pretty nice weather, hi50's to mid60's
encountered tons of ppl, ugh... and horse poopie, a bikers worse fear.

Went out and rode Prairie View/Jewell loop yesterday. It's a 15-20km loop with relatively easy switchback climbs to the top (really steep right near the top though = unrideable), a scree/loose rock descent, then fast twisty and rolly through the trees.

Yesterday was about 5C and we weren't sure how much snow there would be. Turned out to be quite a bit...so there was a fair amount of pushing. The fun, fast, rolling section of Jewell was covered in deep snow so it was mainly pushing which was disappointing. The rocky descent at the top was mostly clear and fun...the descent through the trees was squirrelly due to the snow and the aggressive geo XC bike with the small tires! I think our average speed was just over 5km/h and took 2.5 hours to complete...only an hour longer than normal!

The intial rocky descent:

Right after school today, I went on my first mountain free ride (don't know if it is classified as one, you tell me). It was like at the foot of a mountain where the government deceided to build something and either they couldnt be screwed or they gave up. It was like a bumpy ride and it was damn exhausting. Those tracks which the bulldozers leave behind are dang fun to ride over. My forks were like going up and down all the time. Man, I would give up computer gaming for free riding if free riding is like that.

Edit: Pic of where I rided. It was taken from my house coz I didnt bring a camera with me.

Conditions: 2/3 inches of snow on ground!
Weather: Sunny!
No precipitation, but the trail was MUDDY!
A great way to start the season! Wet, Muddy, Snowy, and warm!

Great day! Fun ride!

Interesting ride this evening

When I pulled up outside the shop tonight, I saw a huge mountain of bike boxes out front - the Kona demo fleet had arrived! I went out with wheeliemert, highrevs, PiastonX, and a couple others for an assault (more like a sudden feint, actually) on UNCG. It was a pleasant 32 degrees F.

As the evening progressed, we kept swapping out bikes. The selection included a Stuff, a Coiler Deluxe with DHX 4.0/66 (frame was redesigned this year, feels very similar to my SXT), and a Stinky Deluxe with Roco/888 (the stair gap destroyer). The rotation also included PiastonX's Howler/Marz 4x, DerDer's singlespeed Cowan DS, and mert's Banshee Chap (not surprisingly the best of the bunch).

I really enjoyed the variety - there's nothing quite like hopping off a DS bike with Tourette's steering onto a raked out dual crown DH sled, and then proceeding directly onto an DJ hardtail three sizes too small for you.

Sorry no pics.

I promise you, it's all true. Well, all, except for the fact that we were actually riding Schwinn S25's.

Went out for a spin around the lake today. I'm having fun with the hardtail, especially its squirrely tires and lack of a front brake.

We don't see much ice on the trails around here. I thought it was worth documenting.
(See, northerners? It's not all milk and honey down here)

A freshly cut section of trail with the bedding in process progressing nicely:

Got out to Rays again today. I still suck at the stunts, and im still slow on the pump track. That said, its always good fun, especially this cool little jump that leads into a berm that i time perfectly in an otherwise sloppy run.

Ill take a camera with me next time for pics.

Went for a ride today at bairds creek in Green Bay. The trail is frozen solid with a good amount of snow over it. Luckily the main trails were packed down by foot traffic. We only saw one other set of bike tracks. I love my new rockhopper. Winter riding rocks as long as you stay out of the deep snow. I'm going again tuesday. :)

Pete_Fagerlin1 02-18-07 09:28 PM

Winter riding rocks. The trails were nice and tacky and it was 68 degrees.

Jacob C 02-18-07 09:44 PM

might have hit 30 today up here.... Im not sure you can even call 68 degrees winter

Went up to the Auburn DH runs today before the shopped opened. Got there a 6:15. 5 of us total in the beginning. Went down a no-bike tech run, and Mike smashed his hand into a tree, splitting his palm open and breaking his little finger.

After that, Mike went home, but we got 3 more runs in. Hit some new trails, mid 60s, nice and tacky :D

StuntTech 02-20-07 05:15 PM

Went up Brown Canyon on Sunday. It has just taken me a couple of days to post this. Was a short ride like 5 miles. The weather was great. It was like 60 out the trail had a little grooming done. There were alot of hikers out so I didn't get too crazy with it. But maybe next monday.
