I'm surprised there isn't a 'Transition' sticker on there somewhere, is this different from an off-the-shelf frame?

Transitions come with sticker packs, you can apply (or not) as you wish.

My custom 'Transition' decals weren't ready last night; picked them up today. I didn't like the plain, solid red name decal; so I had the guys at Transition send me the Illustrator file to which I added outline and drop-shadow. It will be red outline/drop shadow around Florentine-pattern gold-foil vinyl.

Isn't that how everyone sets up their derailleur?

another piece of xtr. This ride is sweet but is going to be replaced by a superlight.

For comfort I needed to minimize the rise and sweep of my bars. It feels a little narrow, it will take a little getting used to.

Fresh picts. Finished, stickered and ready to rock - - taken Saturday before heading out for Beacon to get it dirty with some DH practice.

I checked out the Beacon course on virtualdescent, looks uber fun, but there're definitely a couple hairy spots.

Upper part of the course had a new 'pucker factor' wrinkle (at least for me) near the top of the course. Check the video again and at 15-16 seconds in you're rounding a sweeping left-hand berm. Now, right after exiting it at the 16-17 second mark) you see two big pines on the right? there's a double there with the kicker even with the first tree and the landing out even with the second (about 17-18').

Mind you, with my race-organizer duties I only got in three practice runs in all weekend; so I never got myself carrying enough speed exiting the corner to where I felt confident launching that gap. Needless to say, it will be my next hurdle to conquer on that course.

Aside note: The observant eye will note the much-more-svelt (and sturdier I'm told) upper shock mount - - replacing the somewhat odd boomerang-looking gusset that the earlier models had.

Haha! Yeah, I was ready for someone to give me a bad time about that. They came assembled and pre-bled before I put them on the Gran Mal - - and they were a touch too long then. When I swapped them over, we didn't bother to trim. They were silly-long (GM was a long frame; this is a medium) but figured I'd deal with it after the race.

Gearing is 38/11-26. Cassette is the PG-970 DH with the razzoo red-anodized alloy spacers.


66 - - Thanks! But it's getting a little too rustic now. As you know, you have to really keep after pine with the log oil or it starts silvering. And the battens do a lot of moving. I had a mix of 1x10s and 1x12s, so I had to leave some gaps between boards to keep the spacing of the battens even - - lots of nice gaps to house yellow jackets and other vermin

Santiago - - I tried to tell him . Really, though, for his 4X bike, the Sunline V-One would be even better.

Very nice! Glad to see you went with the floater, I think you'll be very happy! That new upper shock mount looks much cleaner, and those stickers are sweet!

Have fun on it, counting down the days till I make my way up to your part of the country!

Mine came the same way, very long as well. I will get around to trimming them some time this summer.

It does! I felt right at home on it immediately (something about the Transition bloodline, I guess) - - it had all of the good traits of the Gran Mal, with the added good traits that the redesign imparted. The shorter chainstays and medium frame combined to make it pop off jumps better; and the lower BB makes it corner like it's on rails. I have not noticed any pedal strikes yet from the lower BB as some have - - I should measure mine and see how it came out.

Very arty, man. Interesting, the profile is almost a ringer for the Sunline's; though it should perform much better at lightening your wallet .
