For Some reson I don't really care for XC bikes, but I really like the way that the MX bike looks.

Nice bike mx, you've got it pretty modernized. How do you like that rear disc mounting set-up?

All Im saying is my bike at least has entry level components, you can't even compare that to an xmart bike. If people think my bike is crappy thats fine, but I know it can beat any xmart bike anyday of the week.
dood that thing is on par with "xmart" bikes..

just cuz you have a hollowtech 1 setup... and a 10 year old xt drive train doesnt make you any better than any one else

sorry bud

The only thing that makes someone better than someone else is what they put down on the trail as well as their even being out there in the first place. Not everyone has the disposable cash to put into a bike - isn't it more important that they're riding in the first place? Over time, they'll figure out that (for the most part) the more money invested usually results in higher performance and more durability. There's no reason for someone just getting started in the sport to spend a ton of money, especially if they don't have it to spend.

My first two bikes had cantis and they actually worked pretty well. If they were set up right, they could actually stop you, but I'll stick with my disks.

This thread is great - show everyone what you're riding. I'm pretty proud of my bike, but I am not about to knock someone elses ride because it isn't up to my standards; that's pretty elitist if you ask me.

Now go get all those pretty bikes dirty!! (then clean them and make them happy for the next time)

the rear disc set-up has been great. i don't doubt its integrity at all when i am hammerin' the trails as hard as i do no seriously, i wouldn't do anything other than XC with it. it has been good though. its not for everyone. i went through a lot of trouble to put it on. it is a special hub, so you can't just slap any disc hub together with it. which means you either have to get a wheel custom built or lace it yourself. plus there was some minor dremeling i had to do to the mount because they can't make a generic mount that would fit every frame out there. however, it was done with precision and tastefully. you wouldn't know if you were able to see it up close. i wasn't ready to give up my older hardtail for disc. i do believe this product and frames with no tabs are a dying breed but in 1995 discs were not prevalent. i doubt WOOdman or Brake Therapy sell that many units anymore.

WOOdman customer service was excellent. i give it 5 stars, but only to those experienced.

thank you...i tried to keep it fairly straight forward and "clean". i know the brakes are overkill...but that's okay cause they're pretty sweet!!!
...and i know i have stuff on it that is not conducive to XC and yet above i said i would only use it for XC, but oh well. when i retire the frame and get another bike i won't be so "mixed" up. the e.thirteen guide is nice too. i love the 1 X 8 set-up. i don't think i'd ever do differently other than an internal shift hub.

it is pretty mint. to be honest, it was stored for much of its life. then, it seems for some reason it has sentimental value to me so i don't exactly beat it up.

honestly, i have been in school a long time and it takes away from my riding. someday that will change. i am always on this forum because i am studying at my computer and i take frequent mental breaks so i don't go

thanks! cranks are actually the Hussefelt OE ones that Jensonusa.com sells for i think 69 dollars. i know they're not the greatest, but for that price i think they are good. then the e.thirteen guide with a 1 X 8 set-up. i said in the other post above, if you're not racing XC, this seems like the way to go. i only use about the middle 6 and never really feel like i NEED more. something to consider...gets rid of those front derailleurs too. i think Gastro told me to do this. i do whatever he says to do. all of the regulars that have been here a long time helped me back in may when i joined. here is a thread with a few more pics:

With XC, try a 38T ring\11 cog.
Works fine for flatland speed.
And I can't really see needing lower than 38-30 climbing with a xc light bike.

Oh no little miss "I ran from the ranger because Im a complete ******" doesn't like my bike? oh noes!!! Im going to take what you've said with a grain of salt and let it slide right off my arse. Its obvious you don't know anything about bikes, or respecting the law.

Mx and ej, thx for the complements I love ALL of your bikes so far too. I really love the bruiser, I wish I had one lol.

Warning: when attempting to mix metaphors (not usually a good idea) it's important to understand the metaphors in the first place.

You didn't succeed in mixing those poor metaphors but you did murder them.

Your comments about the guy's xmart bike are akin to a guy in a Pinto bagging on someone's Yugo.

So why is everyone making a shltstorm of a stink about it? (Btw - To “take something with a grain of salt” is to view a statement with a skeptical attitude. “She took the claim that he didn’t want to be president with a grain of salt.”)

OK...you got me.
38T ring to 11-30 cluster light XC bike.
My theory is that if my bike was +25 lbs I'd drop 2 teeth 36.
Freeride +30 lbs I'd go 34.
Downhill +35 lbs =32T rings.

?

Because it's a pot, kettle, black situation coming from an inexperienced rider on a hoopty bike.

oh...i thought you might have meant a cluster but wasn't sure. i have a 34t up front and forgot what's in back. whatever the most common set-up is i think. it feels pretty good. i didn't look too heavily into gearing and just kind of chose the 34t arbitrarily

Hank Rearden has a bad attitude. He hasn't said one constructive thing yet. He has just given us a pathetic grammar lesson, and made fun of two people's bikes. He is such a newbie that he has never even seen a mountain bike more than 2 years old. He is the type of arrogant jack@ss that gives mt bikers a bad name. Thats no metaphor, troll!

Hold on a second sunshine, you're making some monstrous assumptions.

Not only have I seen mountain bikes that are older than two years, I won three of them that are older than three years!

My auto analogy merely pointed out how preposterous it was for someone to be critical of another bike, when they're riding a similar bike.

The bottom line is that it's not about what someone rides, but how they can ride. To get back to the Pinto/Yugo analogy, you could be a sh|tty driver in either car, or you could be Jackie Stewart and be able to out drive 99% of the rest of the folks out there...

Now it's time to unbunch those panties!

its a great frame and i LOVE the colour its super light but not to thin so it can take some battering for aggressive XC and abit of trails!!

i was wondering about putting a e-thirteen bashgaurd onto this.. how do i go about this do i need to take of a chainring or what?
