I'll admit, this is turning into the hottest pedals on BF thread. These are all some of the nicest platforms I have ever seen (never in person).

I personally like my Wellgo Hybrid pedals. werves multiple purposes quite well.

They're coolest when they match.

And Dean started an interesting thread here back in Oct. of '07:

https://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=346945

Personally, I'm not crazy about the semi-proprietary design (needing crankarms that are bored out for the Flypaper inserts); but at least they are Gravity cranks, which I run anyway. The pedals themselves seem quite cool.
I agree that having to use modified cranks is an issue that will have to be addressed if these pedals are going to sell well, but it's cool that Dean has put so much effort/thought into them. People spend lots of time talking BS - it's awesome to see someone come up with an idea and make it happen.

It's also sad that most of the critique of them is completely off base or simply a superficial analysis of how "pimp" they look. I suppose he should offer a some fake emeralds embedded in the pedals...

Having seen and tried them he has a superior product it just needs some further work to get the manufacturing costs down while maintaining the essential elements of the design.

Thanks for the link to the MTBR.com thread.

I shot a video of Dean explaining the highlights of his design and tearing down the pedals. I'll post a link when I get it online.

^^ Cool. Thanks for that, vik. Always a treat when you get to meet the innovators in person and talk to them.

Don't go making too many assumptions there, Reb. Believe me, I've suffered enough low-grade pedals, unsealed bearings, homemade, shadetree modifications because that's all I could afford. Some of us have what we have now by hard work and carefully cultivating relationships with some key people to help us along our way .

Bikes: a lot

THis has been a good thread for me, as I'm building a bike, and have been considering a good pair of plats on this build. Do I have to wear 510 impacts or will a pair of old Vans work?
I'm not stylish enough to sport the Chuck Taylors like Siu.

Gastro will tell you that you better have 5.10s if you want to hang with him but your Vans should be fine - - and very Punk Rock 101 .

I've been thinking pretty seriously about flats for the Komodo and throwing the Candy's on the crapper.

I've got 2 pr. of DC's (Pure XE Chocolate and Plaid, and Trivis Chocolate) shoes that will be perfect for it. I used to skate DC's and Etnies back in my later years...I was pimpin' vans for a long time in my early days of skating though.

I'm thowin' down new skool, dogg!

Still gotta give respect to Vans...that's all there was in the days of Animal Chin...when Rob Roskopp was skating for Santa Cruz instead of marketing the new "Surf the Earth" movement. Thank God for change though...I know I couldn't still sk8...I couldn't surf worth a crap. Rob is actually one of the reasons I like Santa Cruz bikes so much.

I was thinkin' more like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pSLmxBh5cQ

1. Crank up the volume
2. rip off the knob
3. Enjoy a band paying homage to the late and great Mr. Hendrix himself.

They do have their place, though (although rubber is better), on unsealed-bearing pedals. If they're metal, they'd need to be o-ringed to keep the moisture out.

I saw those earlier today. Funny, they could be retrofitted with pins quite easily. Love the accommodation for reflectors I was seeing those promoted as commuter pedals.
