I don't know what my max HR is. But I know my LTHR is 167. (The HR I could ride an hour TT at.)

This is what you want to do to find it. Get your LTHR, and base your zones off of it.

(It also has info on T-time for swimming. I think you can swim 600yds instead of 1000yds and take the average time for the 100yds.)
If I remember correctly, you should be able to manually enter HR zones on the Garmin software and download it to the Garmin. (If not, enter a max HR that gets you the closest approximation to your zones.)

Not a doctor and don't play one on TV, but I've used this with mixed results: https://www.zicam.com/products/coldremedy_oralmist

Taken at the first sign of a sore throat, it seems to really reduce the duration of a cold. I feel it does keep the cold from moving from your head to your chest.

as soon as I feel like that I clean both ears with hydrogen peroxide. Keep it in there as long as possible until the foaming stops.

--Afrin, 2-3 puffs in each nostril twice a day. Best way to open up the sinuses. Make sure you only use it for 3-4 days.
--I'm a fan of Airborne--similar to zicam, and another mega-dose vitamin C/echinacea/zinc kind of product. I can't prove that it works, but it sure can't hurt.

Really, there's not much else you can do but ride it out... I have no idea what peroxide in the ears would do except fizz a lot in your ear. Sterilizing your outer ear isn't going to help.

It's the same reason pediatricians give antibiotics for "strep throat" in that situation when it's completely unnecessary.

It couldn't hurt. We have to clean our dogs ears out often to prevent infections.

Dogs tend to get infections of the outer ear more frequently as I recall, so it might. I'd check with a vet though.

1. go get some ginger and make the tea
2. decongestants (I like sudafed but you have to flash a driver's license to get it)
3. (most important) time

Saline sinus flush works for me.

I'm afraid you have no idea, since you don't know what I have done, experienced, or how many days elapsed.

If you don't wish to try something yourself then thanks for indicating it so I can dismiss your input.

(I know you are an MD btw)

See? the doctor concensus is some decongestant, some herbal/vitamin remedy that might not help but can't hurt, and time.

Well, then I'm afraid you have no idea about the pathophysiology of sinus or ear infections. The burden of proof is different for us. You can recommend putting peroxide in your ears without a shred of evidence that it works for anything. I can't.

If you wish to make a recommendation based on no scientific foundation and purely anecdotal experience in 1 person, thanks for indicating it so I can dismiss your input.

By the way, here's an animal study (granted, it's only an animal study) showing the toxicity of peroxide applied to the ear.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14603071

Of course this study was done in animals with a perforated eardrum, because there would be no way for peroxide to reach the middle or inner ear otherwise.

We decided to cancel today's ride due to residual snow/ice on the roads.

So now instead of riding, I am going to do a roller session in the basement. But first the Mrs. wants me to dye her hair (she has like 10 grey hairs but hates them, and guess who is the MOF's hair person??).

I'd rather be on the road....

dye them at the same time as riding the rollers for a hair-raising hair-coloring experience.
