Mid-1980s high-tech. The Compaq Portable. Our internal auditors had these at one of my jobs.

They cost more than $3,000 weighed almost 30 pounds and had 128k RAM. Those slots to the right of the massive 9" monochrome screen are 5 1/4" floppy drives.

I like how it's 64 degrees, but only feels like 63.8.

Did you actually need it in a .doc or did you just want it as a .doc so you could edit it? If the latter, you should try Foxit. I've had luck with a lot of PDFs - Only a couple of IRS docs didn't quite work for me.

I had to take typing in college. We used IBM Selectrics which were old even then. I'm glad I took that class. Most of my college papers were written on my portable typewriter.
I'm not fast, but I don't have to look at the keyboard when I type.

My mom had a Kay Pro printer that looked like that. She had a transcribing company back then, it's hard to tell how many thousands of pages she typed on that thing. I still remember having to always tear the pages apart and tearing the side feed things off of the paper.

I don't know how people managed writing long research papers (with footnotes) on typewriters back in the day.
What a living nightmare that must have been.

And you never asked if anyone here could try to convert it for you? Or are the documents not allowed to be sent to anyone?
Thanks....dedication/stupidity, I guess they are pretty much the same when it comes to cycling.

We tried to get the owner to just buy the damn software which was like 30 bucks. He's oldschool though. He actually paid a typewriter repairman $125 to come do maintenance and lube the typewriter so it worked properly, instead of buying the software.

Is this a free program that works? If so then thank you. I tried a lot of trial versions and tried to find some free programs, but a lot of them would only convert the first 3 pages, and a lot of them worked very poorly and I spent as much time trying to edit the document as I would have just using the typewriter
They're just standard legal forms. Asking someone here didn't really cross my mind; I also wouldn't want to be a burden on anyone since this is a recurring thing.

Does anyone remember using a pen to write on paper?
