There are some beauty hills, I found them taxing on my 8 speed sti Vitus road bike, can't imagine riding them fixed. I woulda hung around to speak to him on Sunday, but I was tour leading an early group, realized I'd left my cell phone in my room after check out, had no time for socializing.

Has anyone figured out a way to record CTV's memorial ride broadcast?

That would be this one here: https://tinyurl.com/2s293a

I should have joined you. After a long ride yesterday I ended up spending the day cooking instead...

Hi Brad, Ya, I was just there puttin' in my late commute km's. No time to update bike pix, though. My bikejournal stuff is a little old, I've recently added a lower end Pinarello and a recent Kona Fire Mountain. I work on a maximum $200 purchase investment plan, puts a bit of a constraint on what I buy...Can't seem to part with stuff I have, though....
I've gotta get goin' on my Dawes Galaxy fg commuter project.
I don't get out on my Mercier 300 fixed gear enough, plan on riding it the rest of the week if the wind goes away.

Hey op - thanks for pointing me in the direction of that clip. I've been looking for it since Friday.

I've ripped it using GetASFStream (the same thing I used to record the CBC interview); it's now being hosted on some temporary site:CharlieRide.wmv

If anyone wants to download and host a more permanent copy, please be my guest.

Hey Toronto fixed gear community,

I was at the ride for charlie, and I just finally got around to reading the spoke card I recieved. I was suprised to find out that Charlie was also Shiznaz. I don't know if I ever met Charlie or not (he does look very familiar from the fotos), and I don't do alot of posting on this forum, but every once and a while I do engage in some very heavy lurking when I have a little extra time. And I just wanted to say that Charlie's posts often brought a smile to my face, and sometimes even made me laugh out loud. My condolences for your loss.

fisso416: see above.

Going for another mtb ride this evening if anyone is interested. Not exactly sure what time. Depends on when Mr Cavernmech wants to go for a night ride. If it's tonight, hopefully he charges my lighting system for me.

there are comments on cbc now regarding our interview.. totally ********.

2 calls suggesting driving against traffic. "stay off the road" on another. response to tino saying he doesn't stop at all stop signs (somewhat understandable). a pro bike lane call. veteran tourer agreeing with tino's comment about making eye contact with motorists and being pro cycling in general.

Yeah, people are jerks. I guess I expected that sort of response, but it's still hard to hear people's ignorance.

Shop guys: when do your current-model year helmets go on sale? I think it's time to replace my helmet and i don't want to spend a fortune...

As I rode home last night....with the usual heavily congested traffic on Queen....A guy in a Range Rover pulled up next to me and told me very condescendingly that "you are not a car you know" as I was taking my usual place in the middle of the curb lane. I tried to inform him that #1, I am classed as a vehicle just as he is and that I have every right to my space on the roadway...and #2 he should really bone up on his H.T.A. before criticizing other road users. His response was first hurling cursing insults at me and then telling me if I am going to ride on the road I better do the speed limit!! I amazingly kept my cool with this clown and just told him he was self-important and ignorant and left him behind me, stuck in traffic.
What is it going to take to educate urban car drivers that bicycles are a relevant mode of transportation and we have rights on the road? Congestion is not going to get any better, and as it gets worse, people seem to be in even more of a rush to race home and watch Idol on Tee-vee. Every time I am confronted with some selfish jack-ass like that I lose a little more calmness and just want to pull these arses out of their cars and give em a beat down.

You mean on the big tv! The one on the dash is just too damn small, and when I use the cupholder it blocks part of my view!

So, who has a Bridgestone XO-1 for me? I've decided that's what I really really want. (unless the collectability factor makes it more expensive than an atlantis)

you'll probably pay a tidy sum for and xo-1 because of the demand for them. unless you have your heart set on a bridgestone, i'm sure you could build up a nice moustache-barred old school MTB out of something else for way less.

Well, it's more the frame than the bars I'm after... although I would go with the moustache bars either way. I really like my old Miele mtb frame from around the same time period. I rode it 100+Kms on the weekend milk crate and all... but I was hoping to build up something a bit nicer for real touring.

I'd never heard of Bridgestone bikes until recently when I tuned up an XO-3 that I thought was just any old beater bike until I took it for a test ride and fell in love with it. After a bit more research I guess I can see why. I'm very tempted to sell my road bike and build up an Atlantis if I can't find an XO-1
