Wish I could have made it out! I think it was almost a year to the day from last winter's spit ride!

I stayed home to make baguettes instead... and my sandwich today was a worthy consolation!

I just spent the last 2 hours riding around town trying to figure out what's going on.

Cycle Therapy has shut down. Bikes that were at the shop can be picked up from Bike Pirates on Bloor West. Beyond that, try to keep the rumours to a dull roar. I'll post more details if Phil/John/Meghan have something they want said publicly about the situation.

Hrm, that sucks. Is Bike Pirates affiliated with them or something? Seems like an odd choice is all....

Definitely sucks
Hope they can regroup, it'd be a shame for them to disappear entirely.

The knee, tibia, fibia, and femur were all crushed by a rock, and from what I understand it's not bend and more then it does now. Good thing is there is no pain in his leg

Bikes: bianchi brava 1988. fuji track 2007, 2006 Bianchi Pista, 1987 Miele and a strida knock off

on a more positive note, i have to help out a local bike shop by getting a threaded fork installed...
I have a 1" threaded fork i need installed on my fuji track..its an 2007, last year of the threaded fork models.

i guess now im wondering where I could get this done, how much it would cost and how long it will take

the details are:

Fork needs to be rethreaded about 5cm, and then cut down to match the headset..
crown race needs to be installed
possibly a new headset, something of the cheaperish tange levin variety..

Bikes: too many too list

Fork needs to be rethreaded about 5cm, and then cut down to match the headset..5 cm is quite bit. Is the fork steerer chromed at all? You can't cut threads on chrome. This would be the most expensive part of the install.
crown race needs to be installed..assuming they are the same size this isn't a problem.
possibly a new headset, something of the cheaperish tange levin variety. It would be easier to buy a headset to match the fork opposed to using the old one. The crown race diameter is the one to watch out for. Just install in the $50-70 range I would think.

Bizarre, I was in there about a week ago getting my headtube faced and all seemed normal.

I have to do pretty much the same thing (fork from a 62cm frame is going on a 60cm frame), will I be okay taking in just the fork? I could take in the old fork and the new fork and the shop could just match them up, is that right? It might be a pain in the neck to take the whole frame/fork combo in....

Yeah, that's weird. I was contemplating purchasing a Big Dummy long tail and CT came up as a Surly dealer. I was going to go for a visit this weekend. Anyone else in town that I can talk to about this bike?

thanks keith, good hearing from you, dude! i'll be heading across to bisegal later today to see what they can do.

the steerer isn't chromed, however it is Columbus SLX with a touch of surface rust. the fork in question is something in the 40mm rake area, lugged rossin that somehow got rattle-canned black in its 20yr lifetime...

Once I make sure it fits, I'll be sanding down the aero lugged area (internal lugged crown with the inside of the legs exposing the downward lug triangle part), i'll polish that up and then paint the rest of the legs BBQ black - to match the rest of my frame. - the "R" pantographed crown should look pretty nice!

I have been told to expect the crown race diameter to be 26.4 on the fuji track... but if someone can confirm that for me, it would be great.

(to continue nerding out, I've been told that threading down the steerer is kinda hard on something chromoly, regardless of butting, and that the threads will never be as strong as when it was originally.[because the original threads are rolled, cut and then heated, and post-heating the chromo will be a tad brittle]

anyone do this before? experiences? etc?

Bikes: Eight homemade, three very dusty

I had read that also and believed it. But I think the threads are always cut. It they were rolled the OD of the threads would be bigger that the OD of the steer tube since material is pushed out. In anycase I talked to the Kogswell guy (I wanted a fork from them) and they could cut threads on a naked steer tube. Don't know if it is heat threaded though.

So it should be fine to thread it then cut it at length. The tube is indeed weaker where the threads are, but it's ok as long as the stem wedge doesn't push against it, i.e if the threads aren't too long. It's silly nowadays they sell threaded forks with a long steer tube threaded almost all the way so it can be used on any frame. And I've seen pictures of such forks destroyed because of the stem. Don't buy them if you have a large frame!

Urbane carries xtracycle stuff but i don't you think they carry surly. Bikes on Wheels might be able to order you a Big Dummy frame. That's where my steamroller frame came from.
