Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My family knows of my disdain for the MUP. However, every once in a while, in a moment of weakness, I set out on the MUP with them.

im not really bothered by the cost. i could get some s-works black inc team pro ltd edition thing that would cost as much as a new car and id still want to change stuff

lets be honest here, i dont NEED this on any level. so my priorities are geo > overall weight > decent paintjob (bikes are for fashion) > cost

I saw one of those Fuji's this weekend actually...was a bit surprise it was a Fuji to be honest. It looked really nice with the understated graphics.

I use Instagram for pictures while out riding the bike since they link automagically to Strava. So, my Instagram account is basically just a bunch of pictures of my bike next to stuff.

I've had a bad week with tires. On the 22nd I got a large sidewall gash that put an end to my rear Conti Grandsport Race tire. It was approaching 2k miles so it probably had another 1k + left in it. I replaced it with a Conti Gatorskin. This last Saturday the 29th, one week and 100 miles later, I hit something that gashed the tread fairly deeply and part of the sidewall. It caused a flat, but I did not have to boot it. Hopefully it holds out.

I can only imagine that if it was not a Gatorskin that the tire would have been done for. That stretch of road is always a little sketchy with road debris. It is the only stretch of road to get to a popular Indian casino. I would avoid it because of this, but it has nice wide shoulders, is a pretty area, and there are some good climbs.

Oh, I got my new Romin Evo finally set up in the correct place. Saddle position is such a pain in the ass. Even starting off knowing where the old one was situated it still took me four or five rides with minor adjustments to get it to where it needed to be.

Now it's just a matter of letting my sit bones adjust to the new saddle to see if it is the correct fit for me.

On Saturday afternoon after getting home I decided get tyres and tubes on the new HED wheels. The tyres I wanted to mount were Continental 4000 S II. After pulling the skin off my fingers an palms I gave up and found some other tyres. I got those. Time for a bead jack for the HED wheels.

It's always time for a bead jack. VAR for the win. It works at home in the shop and is small enough to carry on the road. Ba-da-boom!

...also, lubricate the bead and rim with soap solution and or talc. I guess maybe one of those dish soaps that leaves your hands feeling silky smooth and soft.

It was a little damp at the local CX race yesterday. Glad I didn't go.

@WhyFi, I started reading Blood Song by Anthony Ryan and now that I'm halfway through book one I can safely say it is a well done piece of epic fantasy. Looks like it came out in 2013 and the next two in the series are already available so the author churns them out fairly quickly.
