One of my former residents discovered a lump on his own head. He made a bet with his wife that it was a lipoma, which is a benign accumulation of fat under the skin.

So he went into work and MRIed his own head.

Yep, lipoma, and the end result of that part of the story is that his wife bought him a beer.

However when he was looking at his own MRI, he noticed his left vertebral artery looked a little enlarged and it was pushing down onto the surface of his brain stem. That for sure was something worth getting checked out.

One cerebral angiogram later, he has been diagnosed with an asymptomatic brain aneurysm. He's got to go back to the neurosurgeon next week to find out what the recommendations are for that- apparently the options are stenting vs watching it over time.

See? This is what you get when you start goofing around MRIing your own head.

Just reporting the facts.

I know, right? Boss finally told me to quit MRIing stuff.

Wasn't feeling super great this morning, but I did get (more or less) a full night's sleep (I wore earplugs to bed... really), so I set out on the ride that I'd had planned for yesterday. It's always fun to cross borders, and I've been wanting to get out of the state on a bike ride, from my door, for a while now, so I took a ride to Stillwater (one of my favorite small-ish towns in MN), where I had a late breakfast at a bike shop/cafe, crossed the St Croix River over to WI, headed south a bit and crossed back over at the next bridge over the river (Interstate 94, actually).

Breakfast sandwich was good, but the sauteed kale was a bit much. Was afraid that I'd have to pull a Dumoulin there for a while.

Fancy new bridge under construction outside of Stillwater - traffic in the area is currently routed over a tiny lift bridge in town, so this'll be huge.

Didn't really take any other pics, so a bit of a fail in that regard.

Interesting accounts today - fellow had his phones go down due to getting SSH attacks. Everything else has been a crazy blur, busy busy.

Perfect combo of sugar and caffeine my friend. After a ride I seem to crave some simple sugars as opposed to any kind of protein. Different than what I'm used to when lifting - or when I was lifting I should say.

Whenever you Minnesotans mention Stillwater or Minneapolis or St. Paul, I think of that famous fictional detective Lucas Davenport, who keeps Minnesotans safe and sound.

My wife and I moved three wheel barrows of pavers and two wheel barrows of gravel and we both said, "Crap, I'm done for the week."

That would put my back out for a week, I'm sure.

Is he as formidable as Guy Noir?

I bet. It's a cool structure, though, and it's been fun to see it going up. I'll be interested to see what affect it has on Stillwater. The traffic that funnels through town and over the little bridge is a bit off-putting, so this should alleviate that; I would think that the lack of gridlock would make people more inclined to visit, but I guess we'll see... I really need to have some wings at Smalley's some time - I've been meaning to hit that place up for years. I was temped to see if they were open, but I was guessing that 10am would be a little early for them. Besides, I don't know that fiery-hot wings are a good idea when you've still got another 40+ miles ahead of you.

Yes, but I quit listening to PHC when Keillor decided his audience should hear his sophist political opinions.

I feel like I need to back away from the keyboard today. I've been scanning some of the other forums and I can tell that I'm on the edge of typing something worthy of an infraction.

You know, when I first heard PHC back in the 90's I thought the same and also thought it was a show for geezers.

But a few years ago it started to grow on me, to the point that when GK announced his retirement I felt a little wistful.
