Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My dad's second recovery is going well so far. His vitals are OK, he's alert and talking normally. He'll probably be strapped on the bed for another day, which he won't enjoy, but so it goes.

This evening I went to the information desk to ask a question. A senior lady was manning it. She said, "Look who's here in orange. You know they hired a new coach?"

wut

I was wearing a canary yellow pullover.

It was so far away from orange that it would make the Syracuse college team look orange in comparison.

I'd have to get a new car every year, if I only kept them for 20k miles.

Well yeah! Isn’t that the point?

Actually in our case more like 2 years. Ah, the beauty of leasing.

Hey, I’m just playing with you. We all have to do it the way that works for our own situations.

Snow forecast 3"-5" during the day, another 1"-3" at night. I have a 110 lb Malamute living here. I just found my old sled (Fleetwing Racer) from the early 1960s. Snow, sled, and dog, Hmmmm.

It was forecast to be 30P today.
I escaped the heat and the city with some friends. We went and climbed a small mountain near the Main Divide.
The strong Norwester (a foehn wind) dragged a bit of moisture and cloud over the divide providing us with mostly pleasant weather for our hike.
We had a nice mix of terrain: well marked track through beech forest, no track up tussock and rocks to the summit, a scree run to drop down to a saddle and a nice river to follow out.
six hours of walking and 1,000m climbed (and descended). I'm now nicely tired.

We had our own norwester overnight. Heatwave mode yesterday, and this morning it's Carrharrt weather, with rain here and there.

Great news VV, your dad must be a stubborn one that has something deep inside.

In weather news NW Florida experienced a paralyzing blizzard last night, close to 0.50" of snow blanketed the panhandle. No word on when things may return to abnormal here.

No. There's now way to know for sure. Talking with him a bit more it came out that before the second bleed he had some short bursts of physical exertion (moving and starting an old machine) which could have triggered something if his veins are stretched, but that's just a guess.

Popping in to say it's Christmas bike distribution day! Also, I'm cold, man. I got to the bus stop and there was a breeze which made it feel like 41° according to my phone. I should have grabbed a beanie because I don't have much hair. Or I should have grabbed a flannel. I didn't because I didn't know it would be so chilly- no clouds doesn't help- and because LoP's mom teases me. "Oh look," she says "It's 65° and you're wearing long pants. You're a real Phoenician now." So I didn't grab anything and now I'm cold.

Well here I am at work on a Saturday. We just had our Christmas party last night and I got a healthy bonus check that went straight to CC debt which is almost completely paid down. And it looks like the wife and I decided to sit out a party tonight, which gets me more riding time and her a bit of a break in the mostly packed weekend.

We'll see how the weather does. The sun is out today and I might even get to start a ride in the mid-50's.
