Although the Saturn is obviously the best car we have, mrs datlas drives a 2007 Odyssey, it has been quite reliable and we hope to keep it going for several more years.

Say what? The Saturn is better than the Odyssey? For true?

Gettting Serious in Acworth, GA
About 8 inches of heavy wet snow has fallen and trees/branches are breaking and falling down. We have some pines that are bent over. Despite my efforts to shake off the snow I can't get it all off the branches. I hope we don't lose power.

My '94 camry had everything. 3 engines, mounts, suspension, ignition, brakes, head liner, AC, god damn, way more than I can even remember. It was like the monty burns of cars, where all the problems jam into a door frame trying to get through.
**** the door handle broke off one day, and it was a $600 part, so I just put a screw in the little stub that was left. You had to pull the screw sticking out of the door to get in. That was fun dropping it off for the constant service watching the techs try to get in.
Lemon toyotas exist, and I had one.
My family is crazy into toyota and lexus, and they all have issues, not as bad as that camry, though.

Down goes Frazier!
this was the one I was worried about. I guess I'm safe since it didn't hit the house.

Honestly, the Odyssey is better than any minivan has a right to be. The Honda 3.5V6 is a thing of beauty, and the Accord platform it's based on makes it handle better than any minivan after the Previa.

I think so. No rust. Gets 35 MPG. No ripoff timing belt change at 100k miles.
Of course the Odyssey is good, but I favor the Saturn.

A guy got popped at the track worlds, and we now have a World Champion on our team. Everyone knew the guy was on something, and it's good they got him.
Upside, he's a great guy, and on our team. Downside, he's in my age group, and he's pretty speedy in crits.... I guess I better get cracking.

Yeah here's my list of issues with the Prius in a little over five years:
And here's my list of issues with the GX in eight months:
----------
In all seriousness, the Prius needed tires, key fob battery, oil changes, and filters. The GX has needed an oil change. Nothing that wouldn't be the case for literally every car.

Anyway, a quick check of the Toyota forums showed that touch screen failure on a Prius isn't an isolated problem.

a 2009 ody for 70k miles - excellent machine but Honda made me an offer that I couldn't refuse to trade.
an excellent 2012 Ody for 63k miles that I totaled in late 2014 and got paid $27,000 from State Farm.
Now have a 2015 Ody with 70k miles. Another excellent machine.
Don't know if my next one will be an Ody. I don't like the inside for my tandem. They raised the floor a bit. We'll see...

My Prius V lost it's touch screen/display at around 45,000 miles. A new screen was about $2600 or a rebuilt for $650. My wife wanted a new car anyway so I traded it for an Acura.
Anyway, a quick check of the Toyota forums showed that touch screen failure on a Prius isn't an isolated problem.

Oh man, that’s rude. Almost as rude as me asking what’s a timing belt because I don’t keep a car more than 20,000 miles. Of course I wouldn’t do that. You could learn a lot about being polite by watching me.

Seriously, northerners know a lot about generators. You ought to hear my neighborhood when the power goes out. It's so loud that sleep is difficult though it is getting better with whole-house generators which are whisper quiet.

Every Fall, I make sure to put fresh gas in the snow blower and the generator and start both up to make sure they are going to work properly. It also seems to make them easier to start later on especially in 0º weather. I also lay in 10 gallons of fresh gas. The generator plugs into the side of the house and can run the furnace (or AC), refrigerator, sump pump, TV, microwave and several lights. If we stay where we are, we're going to install a whole house natural gas generator.
Before we left for Florida, I gassed the blower and the generator so I'm all ready when we return.

BF can relax the power is back on.
Pictures of the devastation to follow tomorrow when I can take them in daylight. One more aggravation tonight was the battery in my smoke alarm giving up the ghost and chirping every minute. Replaced that in the dark.

That’s why it is suggested to replace the batteries on the day daylight savings time changes twice a year. It wastes a lot of batteries, but you never get woken up in the middle of the night with a low battery chirp. Thanks for the reminder. I forgot to do it at the last change a few weeks ago.
