you can't go past the Pro Races for quality, but they're just TOO expensive, so I don't buy them unless I get a good deal for $60 or less. I'd only buy them online at Probikekit if I were you. There are other, cheaper tyres around that are almost as good, such as Vredestein Tricomps and Maxxis Columbierre. I don't know why the Tricomps have come down (you should be able to get them for under 60 bucks at a shop); it must just be lack of popularity. The only Schwables I like are the slicks. Specialized tyres get a bum rap, but I've got some slick Mondos and Mondo Pros that I quite like.

I stopped buying the expensive bar tape years ago, but I like the look of the new stuff which 'looks' like carbon, and has a gel underlay -- I can't remember who makes it

Still not good at math, eh? :D They've always sold Treks and Lemonds. And no, you rarely see Treks and Lemonds in Newy. Think about it.

Yes, we Novocastrians are far too civilised to be careening around the streets on that American rubbish. :p

Climbo, put a cheque in the post for ed!

I dont know why you guys bag out Civic, at least between Civic and 2wheels you've got some good LBS with lots of bling to look at. I always found that Hadleys had little to wet the appetite?

Oh yeah, & I ride a Lemond:rolleyes:
Oh yeay & I bought my track bike from Civic

FWIW, I used some FSA bar tape and it doesnt seem too bad.

Rode Ourimbah XC last night on way home from work in Newy, got caked in mud and the bike is making some horrible grinding noises....good job its a loaner from the LBS while mine gets new fork seals.

On the subject of tyres, what about Torpedo7, the're my new best/worst friend.

Think that about covers everything....

Oops happy (belated) birthday ed!

climbo 06-06-06 06:01 PM

loaner? what is it?

Thylacine 06-06-06 06:39 PM

Ungh, someone appears to have crept into my bedroom last night and lined my throat with sandpaper :(

jock 06-06-06 06:49 PM

The lurgy: you are honour bound to share it with everyone that you meet. Take as many public transport trips as you can while you are infectious.

Trek Fuel 70, not a bad bike, doesnt climb anywhere near as good as my Klein!

The demo Santa Cruz Blur LT is too big for me, but i hear they are about to swap that for a full XTR Santa Cruz Blur XC....now that I want to demo :D

climbo 06-06-06 07:31 PM

mmmmmm, sounds like fun ! I guess I'll have to drop my bike off for repairs when that happens.

We experienced poor service, and they undercharged us by about $200. So I have no idea how they stay open. And they got booted from their old location by whatshisname that opened 2wheelindustries. "Let's see, I'm renting space to a bike shop, and they're barely surviving. What to do? I know, kick them out and open my own shop!" Geniuses, all of them. I honestly don't know how Civic stays open. The only plus side, is that like visiting Maurice, you never have to wait in line. :)

matagi 06-06-06 09:06 PM

Friend of ours just took delivery of his new titanium frame (direct from Chinese manufacturer) and is about to build it into a complete bike.

This could be entertaining - he didn't even know what a braze-on is!

He is also not even remotely mechanically inclined - so the whole thing could end up assembled back to front.

Hubby has volunteered to help him put it together, they are exchanging emails at the moment, each one funnier than the last.

If this turns out as amusing as I think it will, I'll share it with you all - after all we need to get our share of gratuitous fun at the expense of others from somewhere. :p

Thylacine 06-06-06 09:29 PM

I'd comment, but I don't know what to say without launching into a tirade.

jock 06-06-06 09:35 PM

Stay calm Tiger! Stay calm.

2wheels is ok, I like the Avanti store. Least these joints will talk to ya without trying to sell you the entire store

Hey Thylo, we pointed him in your direction, but the guy is an accountant - 'nuff said.

If a tirade will make you feel better - let 'er rip.

anyone want a free set of (34) DT Revolutions?

I didn't like them. Too light, I reckon: 152g for 32, compared to 241g for Champions.

Rob and Brett can't be bothered to hang a $10k Colnago in the store, knowing it's not going to sell. The guy at Civic keeps one on hand, just in case. Yeah, they may be big on Giant, but they race them too, which says a lot, and I've seen plenty of Hadley's customers pick up their $7k bikes before they're even paid for. Those guys build relationships, they don't just make the sale. I worked there for about 5 months, and can't really find a bad thing to say about them. Astute businessmen, and good to their employees as well as their customers. We were told to match the customer to the bike, there was never any pressure to make a sale. Yeah, you can complain about the prices, but the service is better than most. And if you go in and tell big Dave that I sent ya, he'll probably hook you up as best he can. They know some people aren't going to shop from based on price alone, and they're willing to try to win your business.

Thylacine 06-06-06 10:18 PM

Accounting....right up there with Marketing, Advertising Execs and Used Car Salesman.

Have you heard Bill Hicks' rant about Marketing? That's farken funny -

"Are there any Marketing people in the audience....hands up...good....can you please do us all a favour and kill yourself? Thank you."

Or something to that effect.
