Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Explanation of how to play Cricket

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.

Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes
in and the next man goes in until he's out.

When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side that's been
in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out.

Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and
when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in.

There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they
decide when the men who are in are out.

When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have
been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not
out, that is the end of the game!"

lol. Scott McGorey moaning to the officials 'but we want Franco Marvulli in our heat' AND THEY"D CHANGE THE HEATS They even were doing that in the 70's and 80's when the old man was racing there.

Bumped into big David Forster at Launceston in the tunnel. I thought the walls were closing in on me. He is biggest, hairest, scariest man I've ever seen. Nice bloke though.

Gilmore, Clarke, Venny, they are all still heroes over there. Venny was racing in 2000 and was getting standing ovations when they'd announce his name. I'm glad they didn't get Sunshine up to sing a song when I was there! He thinks he's Eric Clapton or something!

Expat's gone all quiet since he found out Brokeback Mountain won't be shown in Utah.

Nope. He's cataloguing his collection of cricket videos.

You and paul gonna join us on Sat up in Newey? We could swing by Merewether (the flat part) on the main ride and drop you off for a run around Glenrock while we make sure Expat gets to work on time.

Bikes: 8 bikes - one for each day of the week!

Jocko - thanks for that simple explanation, cleared up a lot. Sundee would be better for me, but I think that interferes with your plans, doesn't it? It's also the last day I can ride anything other than my Cannondale. The tandem and the cruisers get packed up Sundee arvo.

Even though I raced years ago, I made some classic newbie mistakes at last Thurday's race; the 2nd in my "comeback".

I rode A grade vets (probably a mistake to begin with), and for the first 15 minutes I thought they were all slow coz they were just cruizin around at about 40kmh. I actually thought, "jee, I can win this -- all I have to do is control the breaks and attack near the end". So, early on, i chased down 3 breaks on my own like a big fat stooopid hero, with the whole bunch behind me, and I was still thinking everything was '***** dory', sitting up the front keeping the pace up. BIG MISTAKE!!!!

After about 20mins, the REAL riders started to attack, and the pace picked RIGHT up, with attack after attack, and they were sprinting hard out of the slow corners!!

Anyway, after 45mins I blew up and dropped out . Won't be making the same mistakes again.

I think it was the sprinting out of the corners that killed me in the end -- there's a big difference between grinding along Beach Road and sprinting again and again in a criterium!! D'OH, I should've known

yep, those constant sprints start to rack up the pain !! Still, you were in A grade so you can't expect a doddle. How long is the race?

Yeah, Sunday is race day. But I guess I'll have to go along with whatever you guys think is a good thing. (I detect a Chip'n'Dale scenario developing here: "After you." "No, after you.' ....)

And am I couriering a silca? If so let me know and I'll drop by sometime on the weekend to pick it up.

Mebbe Luke Roberts to translate the $$$$ of CSC's investment into a national jersey.

Would love to see Dr Collingwood win, though.

It's unreal. Race tyres for less than the cost of the crappiest training tyres out here, plus only $19 postage. I got 4 Vittorias, 6 tubes and four rolls of bar tape, at least a shoe box sized package, and they still only charged $19 post.

I wish I rode enough to actually wear out tyres....

hopefully the trend of buying tyres online will grow exponentially, therefore forcing shop prices to come down.

It's sad when tyres perish before they wear out
