Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Are you some kind of Masochist mrkott3r?

Bikes: 8 bikes - one for each day of the week!

That'll teach him. I sent him there for a wheel. Point to the one hanging up, and take out your wallet. He wants to chat, so he's going to take 2 months to fix your wheel. Be glad you're not American, as he'll eventually forget about cycling, and move on to politics.

not sure if they're Chorus or Record or what. They cost me $150 in about 1993!!! Obviously single pivot, and REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, crap!! I've got 3 other pairs that I bought 2nd hand, and they are EVEN CRAPPER!!

When I change from my Dura-Ace bikes to this one, it takes me about 10km to get used to how hard I have to hit the brakes.

HEY. My ears were burning so I thought I better check out the Aussie thread!

I'm just as happy as any of you to look at arty pictures of women but someone always has to spoil it. To quote one of my old favorite Australian magazines, "Some of that stuff was a bit stupid realy!"

Anyone know which magazine's cartoon character that quote came from?

Regards, Anthony

Does one caliper arm go through the other? A bloke I know got some in like 1987. I remember drooling on his brakes as they were the latest thing. My poofy white Modolo 'Team' brakes were probably better at the time, which doesn't say much for the Chorus ones!

Chorus was originally the third tier group. I think Campag then got rid of Croce D'Aune, Chorus was souped up with Dual pivot brakes, and those calipers then became Athena.

yeah, dude, loosen up

this forum is rediculously over-moderated and over-santised, and I don't know why, but I guess it's Joel Garner's forum so he can run it how ever he wants.

He he. Same shape as the top ones, one model down. I think it was Kronos (which were the fugly plastic centre pull brakes), Master Pro (with the gold plated washers!!), Super Prestige, Equipe and Team (same brake, different finish). i used to spend ages looking at the Modolo ads in the Winning magazine in the early-mid 80's.

My dad scored a pair of the newer calipers shown in the second photo. They were Mavic branded and hardly used. He could and should have got the levers too. In fact, he could have got the pig ugly overengineered cranks as well. I'm gonna drop in on him and kick his arse for passing them up!

Send me a PM if there's a serious problem. I'd like to know what you're referring to. Or is it the photo thread?

Happy Aussie Day you lot.

I see from the brekky telly (we get 9's show on the channel they own here in NZ) that Richard Wilkins has switched allegiances become a dingo scraper live on TV. I'm confused though, the oath in the citizenship ceremony doesn't contain one "fair dinkum" or "fair suck of the sav'"

Thought I'd wear Thylo's shirt on the Alpine for a bit of exposure for him. Probably not the best advertisement when the wearer is flopping about on his back on the side of the road like a fish on the bank.

No no, it's business as usual here in sheep shagger land. I am allegedly hard at work

Our national day of celebration (or is that commemoration) is in two weeks time (Feb 6.)

Oh and Dicky now holds dual NZ/Aussie citizenship. Apparently he was in some band (can't remember which) that toured Oz in the 80s and he stayed. At least he's less offensive than Russell Crowe as an expatriate - Australia is fully welcome to him.
