Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You'd never be able to make me leave.

Im up for a straight swap, permanent. You keep your bikes, i keep my dog....but everything else ill trade. We own a fairly nice 3 br house, 2000 honda accord fully loaded, big tv, nice computer, king bed and everything else you find in a middle class home.

Sound fair?

Knocked off work early to go to CD race. Was dry all the way to the Toronto exit, then that stupid drizzle all the way to the (locked) gates of the velodrome. No CD again this week. No loss, Australia Day racing on at Kooragang.

With three fellow Coasties in B grade the $100 looked like it was in the bag. Two of us were off the front putting some pain into the legs of those in the pack, while the other two stayed in the pack and were going to the front whenever we came back for a rest. It was all working bewdifully, and we hadn't organised a thing before the race. Until I punctured. DOH!! And there's no lap out for a mech due to the 8.5km course length.

Two races blown outta the water in less than 15 hours. that sux. At least Guy Page held on for 2nd in the sprint.

I'm at work. But it's my last day, so I can't guarantee much output.

I'm working but wasn't going to. Was going to go riding the new mtb out the back of nowhere, but screwed the front derailleur yesterday on my first ofroad run on the thing when I fell over trying to clip out. Weakest fall ever. Bloody weak as piss mtb stuff. So thought I'd come into work.

And damn, is the bike slow on the tar. The turnoff to the offroading I did yesterday is 3/4 of the way out on my out and back time trial track. Took me the same amount of time to get out to the turn off as it takes me to do the whole course on my roadie. How bad is that? Motor's the same. Only the bike's changed. Can't imagine how slow it'd be if it didn't have lockout. Guess I've just got to try and work out how to ride it better.

Start at 7:00am, work like a dog, walk out the door. Oh yeah, and working as contractor for a govt agency helps. I don't get paid for the hours I don't work, so I guess I'll lose a few bucks today.

Good to hear of people that did worse than me. Nice not being alone in being weak as. How bad's that?

But yeah, a lot of people didn't get back over Tawonga gap. A lady came up to me in a tizz asking where Mt Beauty was so she could go get her husband. He must have been in a bad way to make her so worried.

Yeah, still riding it. Have been since I got back on the road bike around 99. I'm the tallest guy there, 195cm and ride an Orbea, you cant' miss me really.

Thinkning of stretching it to Stanwelll and a lap of the national park to make the most of it? Been doing shorter rides since the baby was born 3 weeks ago.

Yeah, take the old P Hwy exit to stanwell, back through the park all the way up Audley to Sutherland, then grovel home.

I just got word from the Mrs that I don't have the time to go. It will be a few weeks for me, After she was home with the new baby for 1 week I did Akuna (about 130kays from my place) and had a nice little lunch, got home and am still making up brownie points. It's only been 2 weeks ago.

They just don't understand sometimes.

Although I shouldn't say that, my missus is very flexible (even bought me a track bike for my birthday!!!!). I get more flak from the kids if I deviate from my normal routine.

Anyway, I wasn't planning on doing the Caluzzi run until about April, and only if I do fair to middly at the Old Geezers' State Champs. So far I'm 0 from 1 having made one terrible decision in the crit event a while back.

My wife is cool with it too, I only get bike pressy's assos bibs one year. Our kids are both under 2 and we both work together and mind the kids together. The only real imbalance is me riding as much as possible.

All this talk of track riding is making me so jelous. I have known Mr L Vignes for a long time (mid 80's) and he has always thought I would make a good kilo rider. Raced BMX and I weigh around 90-95kgs. One of these days.

Track racing is great fun and I enjoy it much more than road, but still love crits the best.

Track = top-fuel dragsters, plenty of adrenalin
Crits = British Touring Cars, with plenty of biff and barge
Road = driving from Sydney to Brisbane on the Pacific Hwy with 1927's Greatest Hits as your only source of entertainment: dull

There ya go, I've dissed road racing in a road forum

You'd have to work on the "Disaffected hipster" thing too.
