Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Holly BD is bikes direct. they have some pretty amazing deals but are a online retailer only. As long as you go in with the right expectations they are pretty much unparrelled. The deal I had In mind at competative cyclist was the BMC roadracer but that is only available in medium up so it may not help you. I am eagerly awaiting my team machine SLT01 if you can srping for it I obviously felt it was a good enough deal to spend my money on.

On the bikes direct front they have about 3 house brands and old stock kestrals (real brand) I would be looking at the following deals for a very very nice bike that you would not need to upgrade anytime soon.

https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...voke_sl_09.htm

https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...p_cf_rival.htm

https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...alforce_10.htm

The issue will be you will be able to notice the difference between a $700 bike shop bike and a $1200 one (components wise and need for adjustment and whatnot), and once you hit the $1200 for alu with 105 levelish components many people rationalize the online Carbon fiber options with rival or ultegra for the extra $400.

best of luck on your bike search.

PS pcad, now that the mods killed the "ask..." threads do you think they anticipated all of Foo to migrate to the 33? It will certainly help our post counts

$2,000 for roller blades? Oy.

Rode out west this afternoon. Stopped a cemetery with veterans memorials. Here's one for a Michigan soldier (and his Civil War regiment) who won a medal of honor nearby.

(Not my photo)

Don't tell the dopes in P&R. They think we're all racists down here.

I thought you knew I owned a crappy old bike and just rode a little. I've been wanting to buy a new bike for a while now but other things like skates, wheels, bearings, stuff like that kept getting bought.
Everyone I've spoken with says cycling is a great crosstraining tool for skating and probably vice versa so I want to get into it more and that means a "real" bike.

I'm more than a relative newbie. I'm a total, complete, uninformed newbie. But that's okay. I'm also a fast learner.

Rain doesn't scare me.

I still dont understand. you are an in line skater. but, you have an old crappy bike. ( your description) but you also have over 500 posts to a bike forum, mostly foo related. Or you spent way to much time asking pcad anything, to which he did not have any answers for. nw you are on the road cycling forum asking pcad for answers about road bikes in his other aimless thread. I will also note that I too am here in pcads other aimlesss thread ( hangs head in shame). You do know you are already a roadie, you just havent admitted it to yourself , right? Its o.k., admitting you have a problem is the first step towards acceptance ( there is no cure). ( using jedi mind trick) You dont have any need for inline skates, you are looking for a road bike, something with 105 ten speed, or rival perhaps........

Is01, none of my counted posts are foo related ... foo postings aren't tabulated into the count. If you check back far enough you will see that my post count comes from other forums. Some in road bike, some in nutrition and most in the women's forum which doesn't show as part of my profile. I also run and am part of a running forum as well. And why the hell am I explaining this, is beyond me.

This thread is no longer about Pcad's over-hyped and overpriced bike.

A moderator should rename it "The Official 41 Twitter Feed" to reflect the general nature of the content and to serve as a direct shot at the 33.

^^^ I thought the bike was pretty nice, myself. Whether it is over-hyped or overpriced, I've no idea.

it is actually a very reasonably priced bike for what you get...the working mans superbike. I would venture that the addict is one of the cheaper bikes raced in the pros

50 miles of velo awesomeness today. I rode with a small group downtown and back. The Dogwood Arts Festival is going on in Market Square.

I'm so fit that I churned out a bonus 15 miles after the ride.

Sunny, upper 60s, and the dogwoods are in full bloom. What more could one ask for?

I got a free year old 32 inch samsung LCD TV. 1080p, it's pretty sweet. A friend of my family gave it to us. He paid something like $1200 a year ago..
