Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I only did 6.24 miles tonight. Better than nothing anyway, met up with a friend and grabbed coffee and biked a little. He showed me a bike he's had in his back yard for a few months, rusting away. It was a terry. With suntour cyclone. I died inside a little, then took the shifters and rear derailleur. It uses a 24 inch front wheel!

I do too. My helmet doesn't fit right and causes them.

I have another race this weekend...question, why is there a Cat 5 if they always make us race with the 4s? This will be my 5th race and only the very first one was a 5 field.

another question for garmin users do you have "smart recording" on or off? it seems that my "max" speed is less than what the Training center software shows (by 2-4 mph) and I was wondering if it was having the smart recording on, which i assume lowers the sampling rate.

Just finished reading through the crash report, sorry to hear but glad you're in one piece. The worst crash I had was on Riverside Drive in NYC when I was pacing traffic and at 25mph I hit a large hump in the pavement after which I lost control but had enough sense to make my way curbside, unfortunately there was a large tree there waiting to greet me. Next thing I saw was two cyclists standing over me telling me to stay still until the ambulance arrived. My hospital experience wasn't so pleasant because after a quick evaluation they left me laying on a bed in the hallway; being disoriented and alone isn't that much fun. I had headaches due to the concussion for the rest of the week but eventually all was well.

40.924 miles today - I'm getting better (I won't say how long it took me). Last 7 miles were with a 20 mph headwind due to my poor choice of routes home....

I think I'm becoming an addict....

I'll bet it was only one cyclist.

My left eye is now so black it's getting harder to see out of. On the other hand I'm headed to the oral surgeon today for yet another tooth extraction (the 4th since January) so I have that going for me.

It's a rough week for Uncle Pcad.

hey pcad

did your accident cause a chorus of plees from loved ones for you to stop riding bicycles because it is just too dangerous?

Hey Pcad,

I don't think you should be out riding . . . until I surpass your mileage again, which could be any day now.

It's too dangerous.

Love,

Velo Vol

Hardly. After a far worse crash in Berlin in 2005 I was riding my bike on the bicycle path in Bath, UK three days later. They know I'm not going to stop.

Besides, Mets fans do not fear death.

pcad

my new bike is complete. just waiting for a nice sunny day to take a pic. i've given you a lot of grief about your sadly flawed sense of velo beauty. you will see what a truely beautiful bike looks like. if only we could have just 5 mins of sunshine.

That which does not kill us...makes us scream.

But seriously, I really want to know--why aren't there any PICS yet???

Get well, Uncle Pcad.

You don't need sunshine to take a good picture.
