Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I climbed a whole 1600ft in Miami yesterday. https://connect.garmin.com/player/33047577

make sure to watch the player to find out what that takes.

So that is like 3.5% grade? Yeah, if that's what a hill is in Florida, I may have to move there....

basically. it bounces around from 2% to 6% but mostly in the 3s. It's a bridge we affectionately call Mt Miami. I might try a parking garage next time, but the bridge does make for good intervals, and the head wind in one direction is pretty demoralizing when your typical idea of a lot of climbing is going over the bridge 4 times in 3 hours.

Hell, my doctor thinks I didn't sustain a concussion. Trust me on this, he is profoundly incorrect on that. I was having light headaches and nausea through yesterday continuously since the crash. I've had post-concussion syndrome before, that's what it feels like. I lost consciousness for 10+ minutes. I had a concussion all right.

I'm staying off the bike because if I feel nauseous just walking around it's probably not a great idea to perch myself on a bicycle. I had a tooth extracted Tuesday and I don't want to blow the blood clot out of my lower jaw, that results in a very painful condition called dry socket, I've also been through that before.

Off the bike until at least Sunday. Those are my doctor's orders. I'll get back faster if I rest this week. I have learned this through painful past experience.

Hey Yaniel,

I was just looking at that on Street Views--never been down to that part of Miami.

Is traffic not a problem on that road?

You don't find these kind of events just anywhere.

The road has a bike lane from beginning to end on both sides, doesn't mean that it's safe, but its doable. I don't know if you remember the thread a couple of months back about a cyclist killed by a drunk driver in Miami, it was on that road. I was buzzed by a Ferrari doing about 90-100 mph up the bridge yesterday but thats par for the course in that area.

I used to go down to my grandparents' place north of Ft. Lauderdale about once a year. This was before I really picked up cycling, but from what I recall it seemed like a pretty crappy area (roads/traffic) for road cycling.

Of course I could warm up to the idea more from November-March.
