Addiction I

I used to go down to my grandparents' place north of Ft. Lauderdale about once a year. This was before I really picked up cycling, but from what I recall it seemed like a pretty crappy area (roads/traffic) for road cycling.
Of course I could warm up to the idea more from November-March.

Apparently cycling is contagious. My sister (in Tampa) has taken it up on an old steel road bike she found and fixed up! ha!

I'm from Tampa for the first 31 years of my life... Summer is miserable, I'll take winter in Ohio over it any day. Don't miss it for a minute! Well... except my family, of course.

Nice, I can't seem to get any body to catch the cycling bug. All my friends/family rather sit around a TV or go out on the town drinking instead.

Eastern U.S. factoring in riding?
Start with TN, NC, VA, Northern GA. Most of SC is too flat.
Work your way downhill from there. Consider NY only when you become truly desperate.

funny enough, Ohio is on my list of places to move once I finish this whole college deal. I want a quiet place to live, this hectic Miami lifestyle has never been for me. And don't think a winter season is all that bad, it makes sure you don't burn out on cycling or most other hobbies for that matter.

Lots of good cycling here though, usually with bike shops and clubs in or just outside the city. The mayor just did his first century and is all high on cycling -- meaning more pro-cycling stuff for the roads!
Not too shabby at all.

As an Ohio native, I spent my formative years riding around the NE OH roads and byways. While that part of the country doesn't have anything resembling a mountain climb, there's plenty of rollers. It's beautiful land to ride through, not boring at all. The SE part of Ohio gets interesting around Columbiana county and the Beaver Creek State park region, where the land begins to look more like WV with long, deep rollers.
My first lengthy organized group ride (2 days, 120 miles) at age 13 was through the Maumee River valley with family friends.
Deal with it America.

Had a run in with the most despicable type of wheel sucker today. a little background: It's hard for me and my friend to go on a ride and not have somebody latch on. The wind here is usually a steady 15-20 mph and my riding partner has 56inch wide shoulders and 300 lbs of compacted flesh and muscle. Each of his guads can dial it up to 400 watts individually on command. So we go around this guy on a Cervelo on carbon wheels, had to be a guy on a Cervelo right? As we pass him he speeds up so I move over to let him pass, but he does, instead he disappears behind my buddies back. Ok no big deal, I don't mind someone drafting us. After 6 miles of me and my friend rotating back and forth with him making no effort to take a pull he decides to come around and we think "cool he's going to pull" instead he stands up and sprints away from us (and failed)! what a ******bag.
We get to the turn around point a 1/4 mile down the road and turn back. He's there again going about 10 mph apparently waiting for us, when we pass him he latches on to us again. We simultaneously sit up and bring the pace down to about 8 mph and he still won't pass us. Seriously... WTF. Don't draft us for 6 miles, then try to drop us, then expect us to pull you around again or at least say hi or thank us for the pull jerk. ASS, just because I can say it. Oh yea and this is the tail wind portion.

oh I should point out that after we dragged him around for the second 6 miles he finally managed to take a pull which lasted all of 20 seconds. He then rotated back panting. I don't care if you're tired, slow, or having a bad day, thats all cool with me. But not after that sprint after our first pull. You're just an assclown.
