Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

When the staining job is complete it will all be that redwood color, and with the fresh stain it will look brand new.

Hey heckler, good on you for toeing the line and racing. You keep doing that and you'll get skinnier. I don't know how Alan did. I'll probably find out later.

Some day...The problem is I don't suck enough. If I did I would convince myself to drop weight faster, But I can keep up racing and in alot of the fast group rides...I have started attending a cat1-5 practice crit that I drop off from after about 30 minutes. That might increase the loathing enough to get me into gear.

Of course just 4 days ago I got a tearful conversation from my wife saying I was getting too skinny and I was losing the body she liked, so I suppose I am headed in the right direction . (the outcome of the conversation is I am not allowed to lose anymore than 10 lbs, but we shall see. Once summer rolls around and I start sweating on rides I think I will lose a bit more.

My TT bike really does feel different with those Zipp tubies. 17.7 lbs with the tubies vs. 19.5 with the 404 clinchers/Ptap, you really feel it on any upgrade, the bike feels more nimble.

That photo is from Prospect Park in Brooklyn. 3.3 mile loop. I've raced there since 1993. The only time I have ever seen any 'lapping' there was when Morgan Stebbins and his breakaway companion lapped the 35+ field one Saturday back in 1995 or so. In order to accomplish that, assuming an average speed of 25mph, you would have to acheive an 8+ minute gap in a 40 mile race. And that's why I only saw it once in all those years.

Just finished watching the concluding episode of 'The Pacific'. Poweful, moving. as good as 'Band of Brothers', which is high praise indeed.

great race pics, heckler. Also nice change seeing new bike pics in action.

I was going to post a bunch of nonsense last night but I passed out early with legs ripped off. I can barely walk this morning.

I should have enough tyre to last over a year. We don't need you any more; you're expendable.

I'm glad The Pacific was as well done as Band of Brothers, and I thought the last episode was a fine ending. Have you been watching Treme?

Now this would be unacceptable. Such an act of aggression by these volcanoes needs to be dealt with swiftly so hopefully we'll be bombing them soon.

Why not?

My primary reason for riding is cardiovascular exercise. I get a pretty good workout riding 20-25 miles.

Once I get above 35 or so miles the enjoyment level starts to drop off. Sometimes I get bored or start to get uncomfortable (e.g., feet/shoes). I do it every now and then, but not that often.
