Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

They discussed that in the Velonews article, all the team mechanics were using those chain catcher things so there wouldn't be dropped chains. As long as it worked that was really their only big concern. I don't quite get how you could keep up with a pro bike race on any slope with a 34 x 29, but I suppose when it gets that steep, less is more.

what chain catcher things. i'm really interested because i can't get a dog fang onto my seat tube at the right height for the chainring and i did recently have a chain drop incident and it scared the hell out of me. cracking a frame is not good.

I don't have much of a problem with it, perhaps because I seldom use the Fred ring.

thank you! i keep getting aholes telling me my dreailleur must be badly set up. yeah right. i am obsessive about fiddling until it is just allowing the minimum of function without extra space. my chain suck happened chainging down whilst under heavy load because i came to a stop on an uphill leaving chain on the big ring and needed to get started again and couldn't turn the crank. stupid i know.

I'm thinking of doing some bicycle touring in North Korea this summer.

Any recommendations?

If I rent a bike from a local shop, it may look like this:

"Soldiers inspecting a battered German bicycle with tyres made of springs due to the rubber shortage in World War I. Location probably France."

At least I won't have to worry about carrying a spare tube.

Or maybe I'll go with a folding bike for travel.

Time for the 24 finale. I'm only watching in the hopes they finally kill off Jack Bauer's annoying daughter.

Tweet:
#Mets fans check out the Empire State Building tonight. It will be lit in orange & blue for the Mets winning this weekend's Subway Series.
Why does the NY Mets Twitter page say "We believe in comebacks?" When was the last time they came back from anything?

My neighbors are dead (cemetary), so no worries about their dogs abusing my yard. But the deer sometimes steel my apples.

I'd ship you a square foot of it but USPS would probably confiscate it as "suspicious".
