Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I stay out of the 33 now. I race on occasion and do rides like Nyack. My favorite part is when I'm still in the pack near the end of the stupid ride or race and I turn to a Road Nazi and say 'You know how I know these idiots aren't so fast? I'm still here.'

Friggin jerkwad Road Nazi scum that they are.

Did you reduce your racing because of your crash?

It wasn't racing that much in the first place. Cycling is sufficiently pointless and hazardous without the stupid racing.

I'm going to a Trek demo day tomorrow, hosted by my shop. It's out at Accotink park in Springfield for those interested. Take mountain bikes on the trails, road bikes on the roads.. should be fun.

You know in comparison to the idiots in P&R and the idiots in the 33, this place almost seems normal.

It's a frightening thought.

Actually, there is no shame in being a hanger on, as long as you manage to hang.

I enjoyed reading your reply to that one. All 3 or so of them, in one post. Nice cleanup.

I thought a RN was someone that rides like there is not tomorrow every day.
And a Roadie is someone that races, according to Eventservices book.
The ultimate would be a roadie nazi.

I think 170 is my limit. Wife is already asking wtf is going on here. I already know I will never be as fast as the fast guys, but can still roll pretty well with them. Climbing 10K in a day is doable, but how fast can I expect to climb compared to the 140 pound whippersnappers I ride with anyway.

I race about 15-20x annually. That's enough for me.

Isn't that actually quite a bit? How many races could you get in in a year if you wanted?
