Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It didn't stop the Road Nazis from inflicting pain on me last evening.

Yeah, but that pain was simply a byproduct of them wanting to get away from you. Now that I think about it, being banhammmered from BF might be seen as a merciful act - maybe they keep the rest of us around to relish in our suffering?

The adult to child ratio on this page so far is to my pleasing. For awhile there it felt like an awkward scene from Lord Of The Flies.

Ordinarily it's no worse than Animal House, or Porky's in here, which of course were all enacted by adults pretending to be kids.

To be safe, I think everyone that has ever posted in this thread should be permabanned. It's for the good of BF.

When there are threads entitled "Junk in the trunk," I don't believe BF safety is at issue.

I just had a near miss walking into the restroom as some dude was walking out. Colin Clarke is an idiot.

Colorado is still one of the moronic states that do not require helmets for motorcyclists. Ironically, every criminal conviction is assessed a "Brain Injury Fund" fee that is included with costs and fines.

Go figure.

Don't forget the "Victims Compensation Fund". Know lots of folks that have been victims, and have never received squat.

Fees suck farts.

'Still'?

Oh, you totally don't get it.

The idiotic Harley Loud Pipes Save Lives No Helmet morons are so hooked up politically and so organized that they successfully lobbied state legislatures all over the USA over the past 15 years or so to repeal helmet laws. So it's quite possible that Colorado (along with many other states) only repealed its helmet law after such political pressure. I don't know what the history is in CO, but states all over the country have passed such legislation in recent years.

Motorcyclists are complete and utter morons. I know, I ride a Honda ST1300. But I'm not quite a stupid as most m/c riders. Case in point, three motorcycle fatalities in my county in the last week. All pilot error. They usually are. This notion that the irresponsible cagers (that's m/c moronspeak for cars) will kill you by making a left turn in from of your path is distorted. Happens, but not nearly as often as some imbecile on a new Harley or some squid kid on a rice rocket simply rides his motorcycle into a friggin tree.

I did the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course (2 of them), I ride as if every car on the road is about to do the dumbest thing possible and kill me. And once every 18 months or so, one does. So far I've always been ready to avoid them. 6 years and 17K miles later I'm not dead yet. But I'm a moving target. Those idiot cagers will get me sooner or later. In the meantime I will endeavor to not self-destruct.

A good mindset to have when cycling, where you are even more of a sitting duck.

That's hilarious.

Before you get too complacent, if you ride a bicycle you're in the same boat. Society in general treats motorcyclists and cyclists the same way, i.e., if you're dumb enough to be riding one, you certainly deserve whatever the F happens to you on the road. The motorist that flattens your pathetic ass? They won't even get a friggin traffic ticket.

But you'll be dead. It may upset your family of course. Oh well.

Bikes: Something Canadian, something Italian, something American, and something German

I got a $10 razor at CVS and got $13 of store credit for purchasing it. How does that even happen?

They're all fast enough to kill you kid. Buy whatever you want, getting a motorcycle at 18 is like putting a gun to your head.

Too bad the Harley Riders like to use their V-Twin Penis Extensions to buzz cyclists around here. Can't say I like being in the same boat as those clowns.
