I think it's quite arguable that Pcad is the Lady Gaga of BF.

I just pulled the Mavic and Shimano logo/decals off of my rims. i think that rotational weight savings is going to help improve my average speed by at least .3 mph.

all those MSF classes still didn't stop you from dropping your ST though
(knock on wood It has been 2.7 years since I got my bike and still haven't dropped it. I even did a 10 month strech with no car)
now that cross allows disc brakes I can try it out on my mtb...or course I haven't heard of any cross races around these parts...
PS the R1 is stuipd...and I am still youngish. I don't think many people on the road could do better than the 650 type class. nice ergos plenty of power. Nice to live with day to day, the younger brothers of the mostrosity Pcad has
. (650R, FZR, SV, Wee, etc)

Relax, smooth inputs. Hold your line, hold the bars like you would a woman's breast.
Wait, you might be too young for that part.

i made it less than 2 min before crashing out of my first race...this puts me at 2nd in experience in this thread
you should plan on not crashing. You never mentioned really doing many fast group rides. If not you may (but maybe you are super rider) be shot out the back pretty quickly. Do you know how long the course is and how many corners? Is your race first? If it is first most people warm up on the course not trainers...I have brought my trainer like 8 times and never used it.
Pack the night before if possible.
I have a mental "can I ride the bike" checklist that I go over
that includes...the bike, helmet, shoes. I figure everything else is extra. gloves are nice, garmin is nice, etc but I need to remeber shoes bike and helmet.
I get there about 60-50 min early. first 5 min are unpack and setup bike, next 10-15 min are get number and pin it on/ get dressed. the the rest of the time I ride around the course drinking on of my bottles (I have 2). As it comes down to the last 5 min I throw the "extra" bottle to my wife and move my one bottle to the front holder and ride around.
Position at the line is actually more important than you think. If people are starting to line up don't take that extra warm up lap. Just line up at the side as foward as possible. It is easier on the front but not a crazy amount if you ride the back correctly. By this I mean coast into corners and carry speed through. I started with the classic newb stick to the wheel infront of me and then brake hard almost come to a stop then sprint out of the corner. This will tire you out very quickly. If you are on the back play it smart.
Stay on until at least one other guy goes off. No one wants to be very last.

Thanks Heckler, that was very useful. I have some but not tons of group ride experience. I would hate to be dead last, that's something I'm worried about too.
There's races constantly before mine, so I hope I can ride the course. There's no details about it at all, not even where it is. It says follow X road to the parking lot. Parking lot? For parking or for racing?

Just have fun, you'll learn something and most likely be hungry to go back and do it again.

I'm sure I'll be itching for the next one. I was for 'cross but I did the last race of the season which was dumb. I would do greenbelt races as they are not far but I work during them

We're having cycling Q&A?
Someone explain this: How come on the Road Nazi ride--for the brief time I last--it seems I can't get my speed right? I try to maintain a steady effort and anticipate the pace, but I keep having to tap my brakes when I'm up close. Yesterday I was focusing on not having to brake, yet I still couldn't avoid it.
