Congrats on the bike, ride it and you will build your endurance. Get rid of all those reflectors. If you shop smartly you can get great deals on things like pedals, shoes, and things like that. I wouldn't wait to get bottle cages, just get some cheap ones, you need to stay hydrated on your rides.

Congrats! It seems like plenty of people diving into road cycling and the CAAD cult here recently (myself included).

+1 to shopping smart. I purchased my pedals and shoes for 50%. I had intended to purchase Speedplays, but with that price cut on Shimano pedals, I didn't think twice about it.

I can relate on the cages. I asked if he had any cages he could throw in for free, whether they be old, cheap, or used. He couldn't believe the question at first, "used?!", but I was dropping a lot of money and didn't want to drop another $30. I got an Elite Patao Alu cage out of the deal. Just one so far, but it's nice. I might buy a set of those when I get a full set. They are a bit heavier, but I don't see it breaking at any point ever.

+1 on removing the reflectors as well. (and just to be clear, I have removed the reflectors from my bike now :) )

Excellent first bike. Be sure to check out nashbar.com for deals. Oh and if you have a performance bike near you, they will match Nashbar's prices. That is how I got my 105 pedals for half off. Nice ride for sure.

Ditch the rear reflector and get a tail light (usb rechargeable ones are nice). You would not believe how much benefit you will get out of out of one, day or night riding. You have to think safety.

Thanks.
I was trying to convince myself very hard last couple of days to keep both CAAD's and make one of
them as ugly as possible just to test how much I love it anyway.

Finally it was decided to get rid of my beloved
single speed (see below). My wife for some reason think that 5 road bikes is too much.

or just put an unrealistic price tag on the bike.
And blame our president for poor economy.

seymour1910 01-22-13 01:39 PM

I won't get into politics in the forums but a wacky price sounds good. Just do like everyone else on ebay and CL, charge hundreds more than it's worth and say it has less than 500 miles on it.

You failed at making ugly bikes but you made the right choice in getting rid of the Spec.

High_Climber 01-23-13 04:54 PM

I have a creaking sound coming from my 2012 Caad 10-5. I was on my Saturday 50-miler a couple days ago and hit a full size adult raccoon (roadkill) after I had looked up to clear the road ahead and missed him in my scan. I don't think that hitting the roadkill or the 2 by 4 board a month ago would be substantial enough to cause structural damage, and on this particular ride I didn't notice the creaking sound start until a good 20 miles had passed after the impact. The bike has never been laid down. It only occurs under power, on the bottom of my right pedal stroke. I looked to make sure there was nothing I could tighten and took it to my LBS to have them check it out. I only have 900 miles on the bike.

Any ideas??

Nagrom_ 01-23-13 05:58 PM

Probably BB30 issues.

Have your LBS reinstall the bottom bracket, and use Loctite 609 Press Fit Bearing Retainer on the outer bearing diameter and bottom bracket shell. Should solve the issue.
BB30's sometimes start to have issues around the 200mile mark if installed improperly, and the 1000mile mark if loctite wasn't used proper. If you get passed those milestones without issues, you should be good to go.

Beaker 01-23-13 06:48 PM

Lots of things can sound like BB creak. My personal favorites are rear skewer, pedal threads, seat post clamp and seat clamp. All of those are much easier to rule out first before getting your bb taken apart.

Been having the same issue think I will take my bike to Jax (LBS) and have them see what I did wrong. (90% of the time I do everything right on my bike 100% of the time)

Looks like those are fat tires...for off-road trail riding. ;)

Not that it matters but what was Photoshopped here? You can tell that the wheels have been photo edited by a dark glow and tires are uneven. So did you copy bike onto better backdrop? Not your wheels?

The grass leads me to believe that the wheelset was Photoshopped, and everything else is real.

Not sure if this is how it works, but http://fotoforensics.com/analysis.ph...7854c0a.220773 agrees, I think...

Good catch gentlemen! I'd say the whole bike from looking at the shadow of the bars on the frame.

Definitely, look at the rear chainstay...it continues into the rim.

CAAD 10 fork question: can you replace stock fork with aftermarket fork? I thought I remembered reading the 10 has a very specific fork to that model. Thanks

To my knowledge it's just a normal fork w/1-1/8 steerer tube. not sure what would be special about it. There's alot of stuff i would replace before the fork though.
