Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

OK VV, Rouseau (In the "junk thread") started criticizing all of America. Some people took umbrage, and criticized his Canadian nature. I brought up 54'40 as a challenge for us to invade Canada. My erudition was lost on the 41.

During the early days of our country there was a dispute between the USA and England as to what the border of the Oregon Territory would be. James Polk ran for President with the slogan 54'40 or fight, wanting the border to be 54'40" latitutude (the middle of Vancouver). The Oregon Treaty set the border at the 49th parallell.

This ends the US history lesson for today.

And watching the PAC12 is as entertaining as watching the Southeastern cheaters.

So where has BLR been lately? Some of the latest topics seem like they would be getting digested a little easier with him around.

He started a thread in P&R this week. Otherwise, he's been scarce. I don't suspect he will make it to the century ride this weekend, as he once talked of doing.

Canada just voted to eliminate the U.S. border, I think.

i just picked up a Catlike helmet, and it arrived with all the internal padding misplaced. any chance i can get you to take pics of the inside of your helmet? i'm most interested in the placement of the small pads.

much appreciated!

Someone stoll her catlike helmet. She has moved on to a dimpled louis garneau TT helmet.

Bikes: Have two wheels

The final mail-order delivery for the Schwinn rehab project just arrived. Now I have to modify the rear brake bridge to accept these modern brakes.

I just run Shimano 600 calipers with new style pads. Not perfect, but neither is the bike.

That's kind of what I've been doing; Ultegra pads on old Dia-Compes.

I'll still be using the early-1990s vintage BRS Edge aero levers.

Paint has been on hold because of my work schedule and my decision to go with modern brakes.

Schwinn will re-enter the rehab program this week. Need to add about 1mm to the rear brake bridge hole diameter, then paint.

They changed the frame interface so that you need to either a front brake for the rear, longer bolt, or to drill out the back side of the rear brake mount on the older frame to make the nut sit deeper inside so it will thread on enough.

The old style of brakes are what he has pictured above

I just beat the second level on Angry Birds. One more to go. This game must be impossible on a smartphone. Aiming just right on a computer screen is hard enough.
