While I was down in Portland today some gal on a bike was looking perplexed on a streetcorner so I said Hi!. She asked me where the REI was.
When I don't know **** I just say "I live in Vancouver". But this time I added that I thought it was near Burnside (I dunno why, I haven't been to an REI in ages and back then it was in Jantzen Beach!).
Poor gal.

Oh, during my ride down to the stinky city I'd just got done eating a KILLER slice of pizza then saw a cute gal riding fixed coming down the road. I got on the road and chased for a bit but she was filtering, which I'm generally not down with. I got behind her though and her bike was almost ENTIRELY GOLD! Frame, hubs, rims, pedals, OMG!

filtering = rolling on downtown streets and when cars are stopped at a redlight on a single lane street, you just squeeze by on their right getting to the head of the queue instead of respectfully waiting behind the car in front of you.
EDIT: Filtering is pretty much a necessity when you're bike messengering, but otherwise just an irritant to motorists.
FURTHER EDIT: I was taking the lane and waiting my turn at lights.

Lester, have you seen Portlandia?

I'm ashamed to admit that I rolled through a red light this afternoon. I hardly ever do that if there are cars nearby, but it was hot, no one was coming, and I didn't feel like abruptly braking (I was sipping water).
I don't think a motorist behind me liked it very much. He yelled something at me when he passed.

I ran a red today too but I was stopped at it for at least a couple of minutes and no one was around. I had to assume broken sensors.

what does 2 to 4 % incline or grade look like??
#6843
2% is kind of a false flat. 4% is twice as much.

I do too. I'm never gonna go carbon fiber 'til I can afford a Crumpton, though. Something a little like this, but in blue. Maybe a blue to violet fade...
