Yeah, just delete her Facebook connection, start obsessing about bike crap weights, and everything will be fine.

Just put in a hard workout on the bike. Amazing how that instantly makes me feel better about being me. RT focusing on the positive is exactly what I plan to do. I have no problem kicking drinking. Like I said, I don't even like drinking. I guess the only things in my life I like right now is my dog, cycling, and my friends.

Do you mind if I make a few suggestions?

o Crash diets are not a good idea. You can only maintain them short term, then you're back where you started, or worse.

o You need to establish a reasonable meal routine, featuring lots of good stuff and little or no bad stuff.

o The bad stuff is sugar, salt, trans fat, fried foods, and all the other chemical crap they put in processed food to make it taste good and extend shelf life. If you're going to zero-out anything, zero-out fast foods - they contain ALL of the above bad things.

o You need to take the time to cook fresh, healthy meals, not stuff out of the box, can, or frozen container. That's a tough change for many busy Americans . . . that's a biggie!

o Learn to cook, it's not that hard. Start with simple stuff like baked or broiled chicken, broiled steak, broiled pork chops, or baked or broiled fish. Still very tasty but WAY healthier than fried foods. Fried foods are VERY bad for you. Fresh vegetables are great, but frozen will do.

o Cut out soda completely - it's sugar water with chemical flavoring and contains no health benefits whatsoever! I suspect the iced tea is sugared as well - no good! Learn to love water with your meals.

o Sugar with those cheerios? - No good! Use as little sugar as possible.

o You didn't mention between-meal snacks. I'm suspicious. You know what's coming next, right. Yeah, you gotta get a handle on those and minimize them. They're tough to eliminate altogether! Try switching to an apple or other fruit, maybe some nuts. Reduce the chips and other junk - they say some are better than others, but that's a research project all in itself.

These are the basics. If you can adhere to much of the above, most people should start seeing results in a month or less. It's not easy to make lifestyle changes, but nothing worthwhile comes easy.

Not me, mine are puny.

Where's Rowan? I'm getting the impression that Australia is always on fire these days.

I've finished with the multi-linked mega-gargantuan workbook set. Today I'm just in a workbook with a dozen sheets or so and three or four external links.

Vet called, Sam is recovering nicely, once he comes home it's more or less in God's hands, we can only love him and hope for the best. We are puppy scouting, I strongly feel that a puppy will be good for his spirits and health. And it might help us too. Any way you slice it the long goodbye is not easy.

I'm watching HBO documentary called the weight of the nation on youtube. Amazing.

Soloist Assassin 01-09-13 09:14 AM

What's all this diet talk about? Here is my take. Avoid processed foods. Avoid HFCS, Splenda, and all other artificial sweeteners. Eat as much natural food as possible and don't eat until you are stuffed. It's nothing special, but it is how I stay right around 145lbs. Well that and cycling, and running. When I say avoid, it doesn't mean you can't eat it. That's near impossible if u eat out. Just try to keep it to a minimum.

Sorry to hear. I remember when our German Shepard got sick due to a cancerous growth in her mid section; they removed the first tumor but another grew back shortly thereafter. Saying goodbye was really tough....she was a great dog.

Glad to hear he is recovering and will be coming home. I recently adopted a puppy in hopes that he would become a buddy for Alley. They still aren't quite as close as I hope they become but it is awesome watching them play. What surprises me is that Alley (my older one) is generally the one that instigates play time.

On spreadsheets:
Ordered parts for a new build on Tuesday, using new parts, bin parts, and decommissioning the flat bar. No spreadsheet. All previous builds had a spreadsheet. I am working without a net.

I am not a dog guy in the least, but know what pets mean to families (I have a great cat). My friend and neighbor lost three dogs in two years. It was brutal. Hope Sam enjoys every remaining day, Pcad.

No, I have not.

I get bored walking.

It is 2013, not 2012.

I am not a Nashvillian. I am not even in the same time zone as Nashville. If I walked my 100 miles westward, I would still not be close to Nashville.

We want a golden. But you don't find goldens in animal shelters. I've been watching the local shelters for a few years now. And if you try to rescue a golden, by the time you call or email, the dog has been rescued. Very popular breed, I'm surprised there aren't more in shelters, but I don't think they get abandoned so frequently and if they do wind up in a shelter they get adopted quickly. So you really don't have much choice but to go to a pet store or breeder, I'd never go the pet store route, we know how to find a reputable breeder.

Sorry to hear about your crash in the "Helmet" thread, hope you are ok.

Good luck to Sam, PCAD. After the Thanksgiving liver scare with my dog, and three days at the vet on IV fluids, I thought I was going to be dogless for the first time in 30 years. I don't think that I could move on to a replacement quickly (though I have in the past). I think my current pup is the best dog I have ever had, and that another would not measure up.

In fact, don't be polite and tell her to "f off" and leave you alone, you don't want to speak to her again. Not that it matters, but is her boyfriend still in the picture?
