Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

...mostly Kings Beach, site of this year's award for the greatest traffic tie up due to summer road construction.

I think we're up there again at the end of the month, but it is, as in many things, the little woman who schedules this stuff.
I can see where it must be a relief to get out of Houston for a month and a half this time of the year.

I actually have some wind issues myself these days, but was able to do a little up and down at Kings Beach about a month ago.

Of course, that was prior to the Great Fourth of July Epic Delta Ride and Foot Fiasco, so I'm planning on getting back on gradually.
@Heathpack wants to kill me in the fall on the Mammoth Century, but I plan on eating her waffles and then having a "problem" with my bike.
Don't tell her, because I still want her to like me.......................

It's very strange to visit places in the winter up there where I used to ski all day, and realize I just don't got that stuff no more.
Fortunately there's still X-country and Ice skating. It's still a beautiful place, in spite of all the abuse heaped upon it.

Dude, I can read.

Just yesterday I got accused on FB of trying to kill some friends with cycling. A few of us are driving up to climb Mt Abel on Friday, its right next to Mt Pinos, you can ride your bike from one mountain to the other. My thinking is if we're driving all the way up there, we might as well climb both. It would only be 50 miles and 6000-7000 ft of climbing. The response was that I was trying to kill everyone. But nonetheless, it sounds like both mountains are tentatively on the agenda. So I'd better pack a few extra Fg Newtons.

Seeing patients this morning and my phone goes off.
" Charlie"
"Yes"
"This is Dr. Bayajo, how are you feeling",
" Great, a lot of pain but getting surgery in a couple weeks, see you on Friday"
" Yes, well that's why I'm calling, the cardiologist reading pre-op EKG's called, very concerned, seems you're having a heart attack"
" Really, I feel quite good actually"
True story.

Ran over the front wheel to the surly today with my car. Luckily it was only over the tire itself, wheel is straight as an arrow. Beat out a storm as well this afternoon.

I especially like that, because whenever I have a minor surgical or test procedure like septoplasty, knee cartilage work, hernia repair, even endoscopy and colonoscopy I have to get cleared pre-op due to my cardiology history. I know what it's like.

...sure, it's all fun and games until the old guy goes into V-fib and the 911 operator says "They'll be there in about twenty minutes."

I thought the issue was with your feet.

No wait, your bike.

And now you're trying to horn in on @surgeonstone's heart attack.
