Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If you keep a log of your rides, you know that you don't ride any more or less than what's on the computer screen.

There quite a few people in this thread who have met each other, or know each other through two or three degrees of separation, as well. Plus there are pictures posted of people actually doing their stuff.

Then there was the iJen thing with the short cut, for which she is still being mentioned in dispatches.

And friendly this thread is. It does just seem so, I find it so.

Nah. He's the anti-41. His riding style is so clumsy, that if you were to post it in Road, you'd get overwhelming derision of it.

Yet he has been very successful. He's one of my cycling heroes.

You should have been sheltering her with your body. You know, just for safety purposes of course.

Lol, once when we were a young couple, still dating, I told Mr H a story about a previous boyfriend who had finally done whatever was the last relationship-ending straw. Trying to woo me back, he sent a bouquet of flowers that obviously cost the absolute minimum amount you could spend and still get a delivery, part of the issue with this guy is he had zero generosity, he was a professional, gainfully employeed, making a good living whereas I was in veterinary school living in poverty. Yet he still thought it made sense to split everything 50-50 & would get frustrated when I couldn't go to some pricey concert or something similar.

Anyway, after I told him that story, I saw that brief look of panic flash across Mr H's face, I could see what was running through his mind: "Never occurred to me some flowers could be wrong. This whole getting & keeping a woman thing is trickier than it appears."

Obviously he figured it out, although we had a panicked default for years to red roses only, I guess he figured that was always safe.

It ain't that hard. Just be thoughtful. ALL the time. Not just when you eff up. It isn't about the roses, or the gifts. It is the thought behind it. If you buy the last minute flowers on your way home, forget it. If you set up a picnic with her favorite type of cheese (that was mentioned once or twice a few months ago) you are golden

No, everyone does not exaggerate on everything. Many if us, and a lot of us here in this thread, realize that life itself is fascinating without the exaggeration. And really, what is an exaggeration but a lie? When we do exaggerate it is pretty clear we are joking.

Probably more afraid of your messy bachelor pad than her windy penthouse.
