Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

...super bummer bad deal. Very sorry. I lost a cat to renal failure, and toward the end it broke my heart.

I nominate the "Advise me how to put all these incompatible parts together into a bike that works, I'm on a budget, and don't tell me it's cheaper to just buy a whole bike" thread.

After it's been here in road for a while, someone should move it to mechanics to share the entertainment. Then maybe it could go to C+V for a limited engagement.

...as do I. His ambition is a noble one, but i see kids like that show up at the Bike Kitchen all the time,
and they usually fart around with the collection of stuff they've assembled for a month or two and then give up.

Worse still are the ones who manage to get two wheels attached to a frame and fork and roll out on something
that requires both hands on at all times to steer, and works better if you lean left.

I used to get involved way back when, but it appears to be a lesson best learned by experience, and I just don't have the time or energy.

@surgeonstone, I talked to Onco about the neutering thing. There have apparently been a number of similar publications for various breeds of dogs, all flawed in some way or another, like the stuff I pointed out to you. The mainstream of Onco does not currently put much stock in the concept that neutering contributes to the development of cancer in dogs. But there are enough little threads of evidence that the veterinary oncology college is formally putting together a taskforce to look into it. The Onco college is actually very good about putting together big multi-center collaborative studies, so my guess is the process of answering this question with a properly designed study will begin in the near future. It will be interesting to see what comes of it. Good thing this is not a big neuro question to be answered, the modus operandi for the Neurology College is for everyone to drink too much and then start yelling at each other, sadly I am not kidding.

Thanks everybody for the well-wishes for my little dog. He just had his ultrasound and his kidneys look normal, this places a little bit more weight on the renal failure being acute (ie more reversible) vs chronic. He also had a full set of bloodwork and a urinalysis 5 weeks ago that was pretty much normal, again increasing the likelihood that he has acute renal failure.

Right now, the theory is ARF related possibly to a bladder infection spreading to his kidneys. If that turns out to be correct, there is a chance it could all be reversible with antibiotics, we will have more of an idea in a few days. Poor guy has to stay in the hospital which he hates, his number one thing he likes is to be home under a blanket. Tomorrow the cardiologist will come by and do an ultrasound of his heart, he also has a leaky heart valve that does not require any treatment, but the internists wouldn't mide more info about that, its helpful with the renal failure to know how aggressively they can push his IV fluids.

The fact that his "research" is basically asking hopelessly clueless questions on a forum isn't promising. If he can't do enough reading to have some very specific questions and a good understanding of what's required, he's not likely to have the necessary ability to pull this off.

Mechanic said my car died because the harness around the fuel pump melted. I pointed out to him that this is the same fuel pump he installed a couple of years ago...he said he would see if the parts place can give him/us a break on a replacement. I am thinking I will end up paying full price.

At least for now, debate on new car options is deferred.

...am I the only one who thinks a melted wiring harness at the fuel pump sounds a little dicey ?

Is there some speculation why your car got so hot in Pennsylvania as to melt the harness, and can you buy Nomex underwear there ?

Our neurology department at medical school was nuts. In addition to having a refrigerator filled with hallucinogenic mushrooms for their private use, they were as well a hotbed of bed hopping. I remember one neuro cookout where much had been consumed, drunk, whatever when the department head, too drunk to walk, crawled on all fours to the cooler with steaks in it. He then lowered his head and picked up a steak with his mouth and crawled on all fours to the fire where he dropped the steak, on the flames to cook. An elegant sight.

Oh, BS and I say that in the most loving possible way. You probably did ride your bike "tomorrow" and good for you. You shouldn't be sneaking around. 57 miles. rode to a hot, humid and lightly attended team ride, dehydrated myself, and rode home.

Delightful.

I put on coil overs, added a rear sway bar, had a fairly aggressive alignment done and corner balanced my Honda Fit.

It just begs to turn quickly now, still gets 40 mpg commuting and will carry two bikes inside. I dig it.

Lol, I totally believe it. Our annual Neurology business meeting used to be a nice dinner meeting with wine. But there was so much shouting, arguing, and tantrum-ing that we were cut off. Now they just give us lunch and iced tea. But everyone still argues about everything and nothing gets accomplished. I miss the old style meeting, it was way more entertaining.

Lol, no I did not ride my bike today. I like to ride my bike for sure but I also like to set myself up for the next ride and to do that I also need to rest appropriately. I hesitate to say this because the "joie de vivre" people will jump all over me. But I like the training process. I have a schedule and I semi-stick to it. It's not really about each individual ride for me but the overall arc of each block
of training. People think it's weird, but that's ok because I like it.
