Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have about 4,000 miles on the rear tire of the new bike. I'm satisfied with that and cords are showing around most of the tire so I think I'm going put the new one on.

It is going to be weird with a 28 tire I think. Very counter-intuitive.

couple of guys I ride with are doing that. 28 rear 25 front. They seem to like it.
I had a hard time switching over to 25s from 23s. Still not really buying it, but as long as I can stay with the group.

After using 23s for nearly everything for 30+ years I put 25s on this year, (28s won't fit on my Seven). There's a difference but it doesn't seem to be very much. It would be fun to be able to switch them back and forth over certain roads just to see how it felt.

For myself. The weird thing was being able to run a lower tyre pressure than max. Last spring I was 100 front and 105 110 rear. It was liberating. Lol I could definitely tell a difference in the ride quality. Lots smoother. I kinda like it.

One thing to note - when I tried to do the first spindown calibration, I figured I'd just ride 10 minutes in Zwift and then do the spindown on the Wahoo ap on my iPhone. Repeated failures. It would seem to be working - get up to speed and switch from "Waiting for target speed" to "Performing spindown", but then never come out of "Performing spindown", or it would never reach target speed. I was afraid it was a dud and I'd have to send 50 lbs of trainer back to Wahoo.

Spent a few minutes on google and found someone who recommended turning off Zwift and unplugging the Ant Stick. Worked like a charm. SO, when you do spindowns, I just spin for 10 minutes on the Wahoo ap, THEN do the spindown, THEN plug in the Ant Stick and launch Zwift (assuming you're going to do Zwift or similar online trainer stuff)

What pressure are you using in the 25s? You're not a lightweight either, right?

I'm considering the 25/28 thing for the Bianchi and the Ritchey. I was able to run 28s on both, but on the Ritchey the fork clearance is so miniscule that the slightest misalignment causes rubbing. On the Bianchi, the frame and fork have about 3mm or more of clearance, but the brake mounting bolt only has about 2mm clearance.

But since we're into the wet part of the year, the steel bikes don't leave the garage. Plastic bikes only till probably April, so I'll probably just leave the 28s on the Bianchi and think about the Ritchey come Spring. It's my trainer bike anyhow.

As a fellow big boy that regularly rides on shoddy roads, I'm not going back to anything smaller than 28s. On my current wide rims, I run my tires at +/- 60psi. Comfy but not bouncy, very nice rolling, great cornering with no hint of squirm or flop.

To do RAAM well, you need a crew that is as much physical help as mental health.

I think the Trans Am racers are even more crazy, because they only have the voices in their head, or the voice on the other end of a phone during critical times. Come to find out, Post Offices are good places to sleep. Many have outlets to charge Garmins and all other devices, and they keep you dry.

Hospital across the street has extended COVID19 immunizations to me and my patient-facing staff. Likely to get this weekend or early next week.

Tell him it’s not about the size of the boat, it’s the motion of the ocean!

I hope to get into swift eventually but one step at a time for right now.
For now I'll start with the wahoo stuff and go from there. Im not even sure if my laptop will run zwift or if my lousy wide open west why fi interwebs will run it..
To be honest,, I just paired everything and it all worked. That in of itself is a large victory. Im going to read up on it a bit and then try a ride..
Any advice ot help you want to hive me I'm open to.. This virtual world stuff is all new to me. Thank you
