Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's govt subsidized, though I don't know by how much. A European cyclist, visiting six months ago, wondered why it was so cheap.
Our electric bills are heavily subsidized.

I had a truck that got 8 mpg. I worked on it and got it up to 10.

I've had a car that was averaging 5 based on the dash display. Got grief from my wife when she saw that. I've never kept track of fuel economy.

40 is very high for a gasoline car. My friend had a VW Rabbit Diesel Pickup. 50 mpg and 50 horsepower.

We went to Las Vegas in it. I was lodged into the passenger seat and could not move my feet. The obnoxious vibration made my feet numb and eventually painful. When I got out I couldn't feel them and had trouble walking. Unlike anything I ever experienced in any other car.

We went to watch a motocross race and he had too many beers so I was designated driver. He warned me to turn off the a/c and be very careful before pulling out in traffic. He was not joking, OMG. What a slug. At least while driving it I could move my feet around.

I might start but I typically just calculate every now and then with a pencil on the receipt.

I guess if I made a Google Form to populate this sheet I might record every fill...

Probably doesn't accommodate 4x8' sheets or a tandem with both wheels on though

It accelerated well, I mean highway 40 miles to the gallon. When I drove it from VA to CA that’s what I was averaging.

Pepe Le Pew. Looking a little better. Pedals were a PITA to get off. Way over torqued IMO, but what do I know.

I hit 38 in my olde Corolla on a couple of road trip tanks.

I think you can hit 40 in a Geo Metro if you don't drive it too spicy

A 3 cylinder Metro? Yeah, 40 should be easy with one of them. A guy at work was putting an engine in one and the short block comes in a cardboard box and weighs 45 pounds. The parts department hands it to you over the counter.

Seems like 50 is possible if you're really good, but my memory isn't that good, and I never drove one personally

I used to keep a mini notepad in the glovebox to track fuel and mileage, BITD.

A service advisor had one and claimed 50 mpg but you know how much advisors lie.

My college commuter was a 1990 Ford Festiva* that got around 40mpg.

My first car was a 1981 Civic. It got over 40 on the highway if there weren’t too many hills and you kept a light touch on the accelerator.

LSS had a dirty diesel Jetta. Thing got 50 mpg on the highway even with HER driving!
