I'd love to know how you did it... if its a DIY.

that trek is totally rad!

TehK 01-25-08 06:08 PM

Those are doubles, not boublers.

jussik 01-25-08 06:10 PM

I gots the exact same SR stem, by the way. It's way nice.

and I like your whole bike, actually.

reedreeder 01-25-08 06:17 PM

thanks for the compliments. it's my first conversion, and i've had a great time with it.

and yeah, they're errebi sprint doubles. i like em.

simple year-round commuter

My converted Trek 930 -- White Industries ENO hub, fixed for commuting, flip/flopped to freewheel during cyclocross season. And yes, that is a Chris King headset. I got it used for $25 from a friend. It also has carbon Easton handlebars, bought on eBay, so it's quite the Frankenstein.

I did one winter with gears...the past three have been blissfully gear free!

first SS conversion, the frame was my 85 year old grandpa's malvern star, he thought it would be a cool idea it rekindle his old flame. forget the brake, it's temp, gonna get something smaller at the top of the bars.

i like your bike, but you might get thrown in the jackass thread because of a few oddly angled things. straighten out your saddle, put your bars down a bit so that the drops are useable + some bartape, and gets some straps and you're set. you'd make your gramps proud.

reedreeder 01-26-08 03:06 AM

what is with the strapless cages thing? i'm seeing it everywhere now. it seems like they would just break.

tape is in the mail, i wasn't quite sure which angle the bars sat, i will change them

World Sport, single speed. I liked it better w/ out fenders but it's been a commuter for the last couple weeks.

morrowman: wow, no cages or straps and only one rear brake. that's pretty dangerous. i know, i did it 4 years ago when i started riding. almost nailed a cab. my suggestion is to get some cages or straps or at least another front brake. nice conversion.

bigbadwimp 01-26-08 07:25 AM

But it does have a front brake.

morrowman 01-26-08 07:39 AM

i used some cross tops for levers, .. front brake is a exage and rear is stock.

edit: it's a freewheel not fixed, i have a fixed cog for it but not enough threads for lockring. The rear wheel was redished after I took the casset off. Also, had to drill out the dropout on the drive side, it was filled in solid so the drive side axil could not move front to back. The non drive side was fine. Mounted the large chainring on the inside where the small one was and used shorter chainring bolts.

any ideas on how to get a fixed cog on this wheel? any alternative to lockring? or should i just get new wheels?

barba 01-26-08 07:49 AM

I like the fenders morrowman. They show that the bike gets ridden.

ghsmith54 01-26-08 09:30 AM

I like the fenders too. I've got 'em on one of my fixies and though I like the look better without them this time of year it's the one that gets the call most days.

ThunderChunky 01-26-08 10:30 AM

those fenders are classy compared to most i've seen.

i86o 01-26-08 11:28 AM

i like the blue

i dig this build. it looks fun.

Straws 01-26-08 11:55 AM

I'd put some brakes on there though.

reedreeder 01-26-08 12:46 PM

i've been wondering about that - i'm thinking about using my trek as a winter commuter when i build up my next frame - how hard is it to ride without a brake in the snow?

if you don't use your drivetrain to stop you don't need a lockring, it's still better to got one but if you don't stress it it will hold.... when you pedal foward it only gets tighter not looser.

gargiulo.mike 01-26-08 02:28 PM

need spacers for the new fork.
