I rarely use my front brake, even when ridin in the snow, but I would never not have it.

Did you have that made custom, or is it more than a few years old?

humancongereel 01-26-08 05:56 PM

what? it's a pista.

barba 01-26-08 05:58 PM

A Pista with some pricey upgrades (and a new decal).

those bandanas and chris king headsets will break the bank. but he saved money by just using his sneaks on his clipless pedals.

whats with the bandanna thing? just curious. i know little about the whole FG 'culture' thing. is the bandanna part of it? or not? what is it for? keeping crap off the bottom of a brooks? wiping the sweat off your arse? marking your colors?

clueless in vt.

ThunderChunky 01-26-08 07:45 PM

it serves no purpose. some people think it gives you cool points. most do not.

it's to keep the lock from scratching the paint.

if it's on the seatpost, it can be used to hold a wrench, etc.

I don't think snow is any harder with no brakes than dry weather. If my route had large hills or was heavily trafficked, I'd use a brake, but it's fairly open and easily controllable with just the fixed gear. After a few winters, I don't even realize that I don't have brakes. Not much beats fishtailing around a corner then busting out a sprint in the snow.

I've asked fungis before and he hasnt responded. I think he realizes the bandanna where it is serves no purpose and he's not ready to admit full hipsterism at this point so he ignores the question. but riding spd's with sneakers is beyond anything anyone can comprehend so even if he answered it probably wouldnt make sense anyway.

Haha, the Santa Cruz thing totally got me. They've made cyclocross frames in the past (and finally put them on their site), I figured it was something weird like that.

Metricoclock 01-26-08 10:00 PM

i carry one in my bag to wipe off the sweat when i get to work, etc . Not sure on how one would function while attached to my bike

nateintokyo 01-26-08 10:10 PM

maybe it is (permanently) there to dry off? I've sometimes done that with my sweat-rag ;)

chase. 01-26-08 10:27 PM

sniks' rims are torellis, right?

Straws 01-26-08 10:32 PM

I carry a bandanna in my pocket for sweat in the heat and a face covering if it's 11 degrees out like it has been for the past week. I also found another bandanna and wrapped it around the buckle on my chrome bag so people dont push the button and knock the bag off my back.
