Here's some links from the Serotta forum for a cool story on some guy getting a Nagasawa frame made and having dinner with the man himself:

Part 2

Check out Nagasawa's signature:

long story but i got it directly from nagasawa sensei too. he and his whole family are class acts. that's why the bike is custom'ed to be road friendly with the back brake guides and the dual hub so i can switch when i want to ride track. i wonder if i should upload my nagasawa welding action shots, lol.

nagasawa's sig is bad-ass.

Hi from Auckland, New Zealand! I semi-finished my first SS today..

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/206...001copynh3.jpg

Picked up the complete bike for $20.

The frame is a 12 spd Carlton from the early 80's.

The rear hub is a shimano uniglide rear freehub, the very first design that is press fitted onto splines without the hollow bolt.

Running the standard small 40T crank and 17T rear sprocket, giving 63.5 gear inches. I took the cassete off and drilled out the rivets holding it together, then reused those spacers along with a new one I made from pvc pipe to get the chainline straight. Locked it all up tight reusing the threaded outer 13T sprocket.

Wheels are standard 27x1 Araya with some cheap new tyres.

Standard cranks and pedals, unfortunately no clips but ill plan to scrounge some soon.

Removed rear brake.

Still to do: Grind off rear brake guides on top tube & derailleur mount, sand back and repaint, new saddle (maybe), new chain.

I absolutely love riding it! It feels so light and responsive, and not worrying about gears is great.

Any general ideas for a colour scheme? I quite like the white and blue, but im open to any good suggestions..

Cheers!

If you're freewheeling it, get a rear brake. It's not a fixed where you can use your legs to slow down as well. You'll thank me after the first time you lock your front wheel up and go over the bars.

mah baby is complete! I built her from the ground up, i love 'er.

I know, the crank, but you dont see the other side of it in this pic, and its a unique one. chainwheel2 = biig bashguard!

Not fixed yet, just SS with no brakes. Can't decide if I want to go fixed on it, since it's a little too tall for me to actually mount without stepping on a fire hydrant. Rear brake coming soon.

freecycle 04-08-08 08:15 AM

that thing is hype, skinny. with the geometry of that thing, wouldnt a front brake be more effective?

The_B.O.C. 04-08-08 08:48 AM

freecycle, i dig your bike. you should go ahead and post pics of that chainring, since you brought it up.

I'd be afraid of flipping over the bars every time I used the front brake, but it'd probably work really well as long as I was careful. It's a real wheelie-machine right now, though. Gotta get a smaller front wheel.

Thanks for the all concern, but its becoming fixed in the very near future as soon as i find/can afford a suitable wheel/hub...

Was mostly after opinions on how sweet it looks :D and any suggestions/ideas for paint & colour combos.

Im not riding it regularly commuting or anything like that, but thanks for caring, makes me feel special:o

if you routinely flip yourself over your bars when using your front brake, then you shouldn't be riding a bike at all.
