clearly an elitist ****** bag because he was trying to offer you sound advice and help save you some trouble. Heaven forbid you have a bike that is PRACTICAL if you ever decide you want to change something about your drivetrain. To save you the trouble of further dealing with people like him, you should avoid your local bike shop, friends that know anything about bikes, bike mechanics, hell, mechanics in general, and anyone with any sense of mechanics including kids playing with erector sets and those little log things you build houses with. Legos are a red flag too...

he was right. I'm not saying you cant make a fixed gear out of a frame that was not intended to be a fixed gear, but not just any frame should be converted. yours is one of the ones that should not have been converted.

bexley 04-22-08 12:57 PM

Dude, C-dale frames are nice. If it wasn't for the cost of an eccentric hub/the imperfect solution of the magic gear, my Cannondale roadbike would be fixed too. I love its short wheelbase.

No one else was there, so we can't really tell if the shop guy was being a ****** or not. Maybe the judgment of him being elitist was fair; maybe it wasn't. Even if it's a good suggestion to not fix this bike, it can be made in a good way or like a jackass. Sounds like the guy's tone was less intended to be helpful and more intended as talking-down.

Straws 04-22-08 01:02 PM

you're right, cannondale frames are nice. They shouldnt be rattle canned, taped up, and turned into a magic gear fixed. Whether the guy was being condescending or not he was probably right, that bike needs a derailleur on it. If it's going to be fixed do the frame justice and get an ENO hub.

Oh, I completely agree on the rattle canning and taping. And, yea, also about the Eno hub. So, he needed a little guidance.

Instead of giving some ultimate judgment of "thou shalt not fix this bike!" the guy at the shop could've recommended the Eno hub as well as making an informative/convincing argument for why the bike shouldn't be fixed.

I'll always side with someone who's innocently or mildly ignorant over someone who's knowledgable but condescending.

aw, but it was so pretty!! I would have toured all over on that bike.

however, the fixed versions pretty too, did you flip/saw the originals barz, or use a junker set?

Very nice! That is exactly how I would build a 20 if I ever get my grimy little hands on one. Almost like a miniature Raleigh Clubman.

Who do you think you are, posting here with a practical, function over form fixed gear bike?

Kidding of course, that is an awesome bike. So much nicer, IMO, than the generic cloned drop stem, riser bar, arrospok bikes usually seen.

I got a tax return, but it's all gone now because I Daccordi frame'd my credit card in December. Then my Daccordi got dump truck'd and now I'm out $500. (but I totally Deep V'd that truck till the bumper fell off)

http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/3604/dsc01388ke9.jpgThis was a 15 quid bike 3 weeks ago, made by BH ?? my mum used to have an excercise bike made by them, but it's light as hell and all fun for £15, with all it's original bits apart from seatpost and my old wheels.

Nice
