Can anyone find a picture of a teal frame with yellow rims? Not exactly sure how I'd go about it. Figured I'd ask here.

They just don't have that particular colour available on it's own. I mean, it's not like tape lasts forever anyway. Eventually it would need replacing anyway...

Why don't you just use friction tape? Hockey tape? It works great.

I picked up a couple rolls of black cotton tape for next to nothing, I'm gonna do it up sometime this week. The bad news is, the fizik antique brown bar tape is discontinued. In that regard, I'm pooched.

The plan, as it stands, is to, first of all replace my too-tall stem, then just pick up some natural-coloured cork tape, twine finished, wine-cork bar plugs, and shellac the whole shebang to try to colour-match it as best as possible.

Also, here is a quick pic of the bike. I left for work right after I snapped these, so I had to nab this from my GF's facebook.

Please note that I KNOW the stem is obscene. It was tall or nothing, and I'd rather ride this than ride nothing. I'll be replacing the stem with something shorter and fully wrapping the bars ASAP.

Other than that, I love it!

nerdsports 07-01-08 04:14 PM

cant you cut the stem shorter? i saw a how-to somewhere on the forum.

Gyeswho 07-01-08 04:36 PM

if the fit for you is perfect, why change the stem? who cares about looks, it's riding that matters

Well, it's comfortable enough, but I never said it was perfect. This is my first bike rocking drops though, so I'm not 100% on how it should feel in the first place.

Sounds good.

As soon as my dad uploads the pictures I will post my new SS. It will be a fixie as soon as I am brave enough.

My club had 10 of us show up for a few hours of fun in the woods tonight with one gear. Good times :)

I know this probably not directed at me specifically, but when I said it was tall or nothing, I mean the last thing I needed in order to ride my bike was a stem, and I couldn't find anything shorter from any of my local shops. $20 shipping is a ***** when all you need is a stem, and I wanted desperately to ride this thing.

No need for that to be honest, just make it fixed and ride it. My first time i had a few close calls when i relaxed my legs, but a week and half after it's all good. Don't waste your time with a single speed if you want to ride fixed.

Hello (1st post),

This is my Schwinn World Tourist converted to a Run-DMC fixed bike, maybe you've seen it on other sites. It's fun to ride. I have changed to 38cm Sakae drop bars since this pic.

Thanks,
Owl

owlboogie are you on BAIC i-club? I used to post there a lot and I thought the name sounded familiar.

owlboogie 07-02-08 02:29 AM

Yeah, that's me. Still got my OBS and it's dirty as heck... If you went by daybreak on there, I remember. Funny I was just reading your review of the bikesdirect.com bikes. And I'm an AAU/AAC (when I was there) alum. The world is small.

Wow that eddy merckx is fabulous. I like the openpro CDs, too. They are in my next wheelset. That bike simply explains why its better sometimes to just spend the extra money for a real vintage track bike.

johnprolly 07-02-08 10:23 AM

thanks guys. It's a great ride. Clearances aren't too tight and it's comfortable on long rides. A much needed break from the steep angles of the Casati.
