It's an old 7-speed cassette hub with a single cog and spacers. I tried it without the tensioner and it looked ok, but it made strange and disturbing noises so I wasn't comfortable with it.

you needed black spokes and a non-machined deep V, or polished rims and black spokes. Then it would be sweet (without the bottle carrier thing)

monsterkidz 05-29-07 08:27 AM

I never knew the Felt's fork came drilled for a brake. That is one sweet looking bike.

morbot 05-29-07 08:32 AM

looks like some pretty badass overlap on the felt

Falkon 05-29-07 08:41 AM

I like the aquarack. I know the wheel I built for it doesn't match, but I'll rebuild it eventually with black spokes and a non-machined rim. The Phil Wood hub is rockin, though!

Here's the latest iteration of my Motobecane Messenger. 46x17 165mm Origin8 cranks and chainring ring, Surly cog, Shimano (square taper) bb, MKS Sylvan pedals, Nitto stem, Soma Major Taylor bars, Soma Pear Green bartape, Surly Tuggnut tensioner, Brooks B17 saddle. So basically, frame, fork, seatpost, headset are stock. :)

What kind of tires are those? I've been trying to find some white ones and haven't had much luck. They look fantastic on that bike!

Vittoria Rubino Pro, I would guess.

The bars are Deda Pista Elementi's. Crazy light. great bars for the street because they flex enough to take the edge off. Stiff enough for racing if you use a quality stem though.

That bike is HOT. It definitely looks better with the drops than the risers.

Ditto. I have them w/ a Thomson X2, and they're badass.

That was my preference. I wanted the tight clearances, matte black finish, and high bottom bracket. The bike is not all show, either. It really rides like a dream, only in this dream there are no wide turns to prevent pedal strike. Track standing is different due to the toe overlap, so I'm actually having to teach myself how to do it the correct way. I bought the bike knowing full well it was going to get ridden on the street on looong rides [hence the aquarack, dehydration does bad things to me]. I agree, the Brooks looks really weird on the bike, but it's like a vacation for your ass.
